The subject invention relates to the corner construction of a railway car, wherein the end wall, vertical reinforcing plate, side wall corner post and side plate are arranged with associated parts in a manner permitting an assembly without rotation of the car during manufacture. The structure provided includes a rigid connector plate which is attached to the end wall and forms a sandwich type transition member for attaching a flanged end of the side wall sheet.

A covered railway hopper car includes a partition sheet assembly, including a plurality of partition sheets compartmentalizing the hopper car. The partion sheets include a construction at their upper end which relieves stress, reduces fatigue and improves partition sheet resistance to fatigue.

A covered railway hopper car includes a plurality of vertical partition sheets connected to the side walls of the car to form a plurality of hoppers. The connection of the vertical edges of the partition sheets to the inner surfaces of the side walls includes vertical posts of a cross-sectional configuration reducing stress concentration of the partition to prevent fracture.

A covered railway hopper car includes a partition sheet assembly, including a plurality of partition sheets rigidly connected to the roof, each having a construction at its upper ends which provides improved fatigue characteristics in the vicinity of the roof step and coaming area adjacent to the hatch opening area thereby relieving stress and reducing fatigue fractures.

A mechanism for locking the lock straps of railway car hatch covers includes a pivoted lever which is clamped over the tongue of a lock strap. The clamping is achieved by means of a pivoted keeper member having a mouth portion engaging the ends of the lever in locking relation. The keeper member is pivotally supported and is positioned by an overcenter toggle action in a receiving or locked position by means of a leaf spring assembly. The locking and unlocking action may be accomplished by hand or foot operation.

Railway car roof hatch cover lock

A reinforcing member for inhibiting failure caused by metal fatigue in the walls of the hatch coaming in a covered hopper car. The reinforcing member utilizes the combination of a weld and a mechanical connection to provide a reinforcement which effectively resists both axial loading and bending moments that cause fatigue failure.
