Systems and methods are disclosed for rapid PCR testing. Example embodiments may include a PCR testing module that includes a housing having a PCR machine disposed therein; a sample input station on the housing, wherein the sample input station is configured to receive a sample collection device (SCD) comprising a biological specimen sample provided by the patient; an SCD processing mechanism configured to transfer a lysed microportion of the biological specimen sample into a PCR sample tube attached to the SCD; at least one mechanism configured to separate the PCR sample tube from the SCD and transfer the PCR sample tube to the PCR machine; and a controller configured to (i) use the PCR machine to conduct a PCR test on contents of the PCR sample tube, and (ii) generate results of the PCR test.

Localized diagnostic testing module

Systems, devices, kits, and methods for detecting and quantifying targeted compounds within a liquid (such as urine) are provided. Such systems, devices, and methods may be autonomous, noninvasive, and provide quick and accurate results. The systems and devices are at least partially disposable (single-use) and configured to be embedded within or applied to a conventional diaper or the like. Methods for using the systems and devices hereof include receiving a liquid to be tested within a portion of a disposable device, allowing the liquid to traverse through one or more channels defined within the device in a controlled fashion, reacting the liquid with one or more chemical reagents, using a sensing unit to collect photocurrent data regarding the chemical reach on(s), and wirelessly transmitting that data to a computing unit for storage and quantitative analysis.

Devices, systems, and methods for detecting targeted compounds

Systems, methods, and collection devices are disclosed for rapid, local PCR testing. The system may include a PCR testing module, memory configured to store computer-executable instructions, and at least one computer processor configured to access the memory and execute the computer executable instructions to: (i) receive an order for a PCR diagnostic test; (ii) associate a sample collection device (SCD) received by the PCR testing module with the order for a PCR diagnostic test; (iii) instruct the PCR testing module to conduct the PCR diagnostic test on a biological specimen in the SCD received by the PCR testing module; and (iv) cause presentation of results of the PCR diagnostic test.

Methods for managing data flow in localized diagnostics testing system

Systems, methods, and collection devices are disclosed for rapid, local PCR testing. The PCR testing system may be configured for use with a disposable sample collection device that includes a swab configured for collecting a biological sample from a patient; and a sample container configured to receive the swab and separate a bulk quantity of the biological sample from the swab for containment in a bulk collection chamber, which is located with the sample container, wherein the sample container is configured to meter a selected volume of the biological sample into a PCR sample tube, which contains a lyophilized master mix, releasably attachable to the sample container.

Diagnostic sample collection system

A wearable accessory capable of communicating data to actuators or from sensors is disclosed. The wearable accessory includes a conductor wire disposed in a moldable medium according to a predetermined pattern, the moldable medium being an electrically insulating material, the conductor wire terminating at an input and an output.

Ultra-stretchable electrical and heat conductive arrangement

A fluorescent oxygen sensing ink includes at least one organic solvent, at least one polymer binder disposed in the organic solvent, and an oxygen-sensitive fluorescent dye disposed in the organic solvent. The oxygen-sensitive fluorescent dye and the at least one polymer can interact to form a moisture-resistant film. The fluorescent oxygen sensing ink can be incorporated into an oxygen sensing wound dressing.

A wearable paper-based platform with simultaneous passive and active feedback for monitoring perspiration is provided. The sensor platform comprises two modules: a disposable wicking-based sweat collection patch with discrete colorimetric feedback, and a reusable electronic detachable module for active feedback. The disposable patch comprises a hygroscopic wicking material laminated between two polymeric films. The wicking material is patterned with a radial finger design that offers discretized visual readout of the sensor. The active module attaches to the film and alerts the user when the film collects a pre-determined volume of sweat. The multi-feedback system allows high-performance athletes who value objective quantification of perspiration to better assess their sweat loss during physical activities.

The capsule includes a housing that can be swallowed by a subject, an electrical energy reservoir having a first terminal and a second terminal positioned in the housing, a remotely activatable switch positioned in the housing and configured to be remotely activated, and a function-specific mechanism positioned in the housing and electrically coupled to the remotely activatable switch and to the electrical energy reservoir and configured to perform a function when the remotely activatable switch is activated.

A method of making a sensor includes depositing a layer of hydrogel over a substrate, the hydrogel configured to change thickness or volume in response to a selected condition and including a plurality of magnetic particles disposed in the hydrogel so that a magnetic property of the hydrogel changes with changes of thickness or volume of the hydrogel. The hydrogel is sacrificed in selected region(s) of the layer so that the hydrogel outside the selected region(s) forms a plurality of spaced-apart islands of the hydrogel. The islands of the hydrogel are enclosed in an enclosure at least partly permeable to a selected fluid. A sensor for detecting a condition includes the substrate, islands, and a device coil arranged with respect to the hydrogel so that changes in the magnetic property modulate an electrical property of the sensor. A system includes the substrate, islands, and a magnetic-field detector.

Laser-scribed ferrogel sensor with magnetic particles

An implantable pressure sensor arrangement is disclosed. The arrangement includes a substrate, a coil positioned on the substrate, a flexible membrane positioned proximate to the coil and configured to be moveable with respect to the coil, thereby forming a fluid chamber, fluidly sealed from outside of the implantable pressure sensor arrangement, a porous membrane positioned on the flexible membrane and configured to transfer pressure from outside of the implantable pressure sensor arrangement onto the flexible membrane wherein a differential pressure is generated on the two sides of the flexible membrane thereby causing the flexible membrane to deflect towards and away from the coil, and an electrode coupled to the flexible membrane.

Wireless interstitial fluid pressure sensor

A method for acquiring gait parameters of an individual is disclosed. The method includes capturing calibration images from foot marker placed on feet or shoes of an individual while an individual is standing still, the calibration images are obtained from a camera worn by the individual, capturing subsequent time-varying images from the foot markers while the individual is walking, and comparing the calibration images to the subsequent time-varying images by a processing unit that is coupled to the camera to determine changes between the initial relative image size of the foot markers and the time-varying images of the foot markers as a function of time to analyze gait of the individual.

Gait pattern analysis for predicting falls

A sensor for detecting a condition includes a hydrogel configured to change thickness or volume in response to the condition. Magnetic particles are arranged in the hydrogel so that a magnetic property of the hydrogel changes with changes of thickness or volume of the hydrogel. Some such sensors include a magnetic-field detector that measures the magnetic field of the hydrogel. Other such sensors include a device coil is arranged with respect to the hydrogel so that changes in the magnetic property modulate an electrical property of the sensor. A sensing system using such a sensor includes a reader spaced apart from the sensor and including a reader coil and a resonance detector coupled to the reader coil to detect a the resonant frequency of the sensor. Changes in the magnetic property detectably modulate the resonant frequency.
