A customer is permitted to self-activate a mobile device purchased via a commercial sales channel. Upon powering on the mobile device, the mobile device establishes a restricted service session through the network to a self-activation service and the mobile device queries the self-activation service for any pending order related to the mobile device which may have been generated during the purchase process. The communications with the self-activation service, however, support completing the pending order, activating the mobile device and communicating to the user that activation is complete. Part of the activation procedure configures one or more network elements to provide service for the device in a normal unrestricted manner. When provisioning is complete, the restricted access configuration used to establish the session with the self-activation service is removed.

The various examples disclosed herein relate to systems, methods, and equipment that provide location and velocity monitoring of both a user's vehicle and another vehicle to avoid collision. The examples are applicable for using on-board telematics units to process that information and provide additional information based thereon such as the probability of collision. In some examples, if the chances of collision are high based on information received, warnings may be given to the vehicle's user. Based on these warnings, the user may take evasive maneuvers to reduce the probability of collision and prevent it. In other examples, if the chances of collision are high, the vehicle may decelerate without prompting from the user to minimize the impact of the collision. Any emergency reporting by the telematics unit, e.g. if a collision still occurred, may be enhanced with the relative location and velocity data from some interval the prior to emergency.

Collision avoidance system using telematics unit

A system for transferring driver profile settings has a communication interface, processor, storage device, and program in the storage device. The communication interface allows for network communications. The processor couples to the interface. Execution of the program from storage by the processor configures the system to perform functions. The system allows for transfer of a driver profile from the storage device to a vehicle for application on the vehicle. The driver profile specifies one or more preference settings for one or more configurable components of a vehicle.

Vehicle setting profile system

An accessory device, such as a mobile telematics unit, captures tags for user desired media content items from a content broadcast, such as a digital radio broadcast or television broadcast. Each tag provides one or more parameters for identification of a song or other audio selection. The accessory device sends each tag over a mobile communications network air interface, with an identifier of an account of a mobile communications network subscriber. A server receives such tag transmissions and compiles a list of one or more tags directly from the accessory device, for the subscriber on the identified mobile service account. In some situations, the server generates a playlist from the stored list of tags and communicates at least a portion of the playlist to a personal media device, upon access by the personal media device to the subscriber's account.

Broadcast media information capture and communication via a wireless network

Systems and techniques are provided for synchronizing automated reply configuration settings between different messaging services for an individual user of a mobile device. User account information and an authentication key are registered at a server of a first messaging service associated with the mobile device and a second messaging service associated with a client of the second messaging service. In response to a request for access to an automated reply function of the first messaging service from the client of the second messaging service, it is determined whether or not the client is authorized for access based on a comparison of authentication information included in the client's request with the authentication key registered for the mobile device. If the client is authorized successfully, the client is allowed to access the automated reply function in accordance with configuration information specified in the request from the client.

A conference calling system enables transfer of control of a conference bridge. The transferor terminal has an option to transfer control of the conference bridge to a transferee terminal. The transferee terminal has an option to accept or reject control of the conference bridge. When the transferee terminal accepts control prior to the transferor terminal severing control, the control of the conference bridge is transferred to the transferee terminal. However, when the transferee terminal rejects or does not accept within a predetermined time the control of the conference bridge, the transferor terminal is provided an option to transfer control of the conference bridge to alternate terminals, one terminal at a time, until an alternate terminal accepts control or the transferor terminal severs control of the conference bridge. As long as a terminal has control of the conference bridge, the conference bridge is not severed.

A call forwarding server in a telephony network is configured to provide an authorization function during activation of a call forwarding service. In response to receiving a forwarding request including initiating and terminating telephone numbers (TN), the call forwarding server generates and sends a request for the terminating TN to obtain authorization for the forwarding service. In response to receiving an authorization response for enabling call forwarding, the call forwarding server enables call forwarding for the initiating TN by updating a call forwarding record to include an entry including the initiating TN and the terminating TN. Communications placed to the initiating TN are automatically forwarded to the terminating TN once the forwarding service is enabled.

Methods and systems for authorizing call forwarding

A system for notifying when a fire extinguisher is discharged or moved uses a device mounted on the fire extinguisher for monitoring one or more conditions. For example, the device may be interconnected with a trigger detecting mechanism otherwise present on the extinguisher or sense a sudden drop in pressure to detect when the extinguisher is activated. An accelerometer may be provided to detect motion. GPS processing can identify the location of the fire extinguisher when an event occurs. When the device detects a change in one or more of the conditions, or needs to send periodic updates of the fire extinguisher conditions, a message is forwarded from the device to a third party clearinghouse via a wireless communication network. The clearinghouse reviews the data, and forwards the data, as may be appropriate, to one or more authorized parties identified in the database.

A kiosk may be accessible to the public and may include a keyboard, a display, a pointing device, and a device interface. The device interface may be configured to temporarily establish a communication interface with a handheld wireless mobile communication device in the vicinity of the kiosk so as to cause the keyboard, display, and pointing device on the kiosk to function as a user interface to the handheld wireless mobile communication device. A session management system may be configured to establish a session between each of the handheld wireless mobile communication devices and one or more user-selected application programs while each handheld wireless mobile communication device is interfaced to one of the kiosks, to maintain the session after the communication interface is broken, and to permit the session to be continued after the handheld wireless mobile communication device is subsequently interfaced to a different kiosk.

An adult associated with a mobile station of a minor is allowed to monitor and control the multimedia content, such as multimedia messaging service (MMS) message content, that is accessible via the minor's mobile station. A mobile station of the minor may be identified as such in the network information associated with that station's mobile number. The information for the minor's mobile station also identifies a mobile station of an associated adult. An MMS message addressed for delivery to the mobile station of the minor is first sent to the mobile station of the associated adult. This enables the adult to determine if the content of the MMS message is approved for delivery to the minor. If the adult approves the MMS content, the MMS message is forwarded to the minor's mobile station, but the MMS message is not forwarded to the minor if the adult disapproves of the content.

A radio network controller may be configured to issue a sleep command to each of a plurality of mobile communication devices commanding the mobile communication devices to stop sending requests for data services to the radio network controller. The sleep commands may be issued based on the performance of the radio network controller, including any authentication, authorization, and accounting server with which it communicates. A mobile communication device may be configured to receive a sleep command from the radio network controller. The mobile communication device may be configured to stop sending requests for data services to the radio network controller upon receipt of a sleep command.

The various examples disclosed herein relate to systems, methods, and equipment that allow law enforcement to access vehicle identification information stored in a vehicle telematics unit, as well as other vehicle related information, wirelessly directly from a user's vehicle without going through wireless mobile network using an authorization code. The authorization code allows authorized law enforcement personnel to communicate directly with the vehicle and gain access to vehicle information while still keeping the information private.

A mobile communication system may include a remote communication system which may transmit communications to and receive communications from a plurality of mobile radios over one or more wireless communication channels. Each mobile radio may include a location sensing system which may sense the location of the mobile radio. A user interface within each mobile radio may receive a request from the user to transmit information indicative of the location of the mobile radio to a remote messaging system. A message transmitter within each mobile radio may transmit the location of the mobile radio sensed by the location sensing system to the remote messaging system in response to the request by the user over a wireless messaging channel. The remote messaging system may aggregate the location information from each mobile radio and deliver this aggregate location information to the remote communication system and/or to the mobile radios.
