Methods and systems for hybrid frac completion include installing a hybrid completion system in a well and, in each zone of a first plurality of zones for plug & perf completion: activating an outer shroud of expanding shape memory polymer (SMP) around a liner, and perforating, using a perforation gun, a borehole wall. The methods further include, in each zone of the second plurality of zones for sliding sleeve completion: activating an SMP packer, and activating a sliding sleeve to expose the borehole wall. The methods further include fracturing the borehole wall by pressurizing the well; sealing, between each zone in the first and second plurality of zones, by actuating a plurality of isolation valves disposed in each zone of the first plurality of zones and each zone of the second plurality of zones; and removing the plurality of isolation valves to produce the well.

Hybrid frac completion

A foam composition includes a foam stabilizer, a foaming agent, a brine, and an inert gas. The foam stabilizer includes graphene. The foaming agent includes a viscoelastic surfactant. The inert gas is in the form of gas bubbles dispersed through a mixture of the foam stabilizer, the foaming agent, and the brine. The foam composition is configured to convert to a gel that is substantially impermeable to fluid flow in response to exposure to downhole conditions of a subterranean zone.

A method for water shutoff includes injecting a composition into a fracture near a water zone in a formation, wherein the composition includes a colloidal solution which includes a solvent, a plurality of nanoparticles dispersed in the solvent, an activator dissolved in the solvent, and a plurality of gel particles suspended in the colloidal solution.

Composite gels for water shutoff in fractured reservoirs

A method of treating a region of a subterranean formation adjacent a wellbore zone, the method including cooling the wellbore zone to a wellbore temperature below a temperature of the region of the subterranean formation adjacent the wellbore zone, injecting a gellable treatment composition through the wellbore zone into the region of the subterranean formation adjacent the wellbore zone, and allowing the gellable treatment composition to gel in the region to prevent or reduce flow of an unwanted fluid from the region into the wellbore zone.

Selective zonal isolation

Polyacrylamide (PAM)-coated nanosand that may be a relative permeability modifier (RPM) and that is applied to treat a wellbore in a subterranean formation. The treatment may be for excess water production. The PAM-coated nanosand is PAM-hydrogel-coated nanosand. The PAM-coated nanosand os nanosand coated with PAM hydrogel. The PAM hydrogel includes crosslinked PAM in water. Application of the PAM-coated nanosand may reduce water production from the subterranean formation into the wellbore. The PAM hydrogel of the PAM-coated nanosand may expand in a water zone of the subterranean formation to restrict water flow into the wellbore. The PAM hydrogel of the PAM-coated nanosand may contract in an oil zone of the subterranean formation so not to significantly restrict crude oil flow into the wellbore.

This disclosure relates to acidizing retarder compositions and methods of reducing the rate of carbonate dissolution in carbonate acidizing treatments of carbonate formations using the acidizing retarder compositions. The methods may include dissolving one or more retarder compounds in a solution comprising a strong acid to form acidizing retarder compositions, and introducing the acidizing retarder compositions to carbonate formations. The acidizing retarder compositions may include one or more retarder compounds and a strong acid. At least one of the one or more retarder compounds may be a poloxamer. A concentration of the strong acid in the acidizing retarder composition may be 5 weight percent or greater.

Further, the polymer hydrogel includes a hydrogel polymer, an organic cross-linker, and a salt. The sand additionally comprises a surface modification. The associated method of preparing a polymer-sand nanocomposite lost circulation material for utilisation in forming the barrier is provided.

Polymer-nanofiller hydrogels

A method of preparing a polymer-sand nanocomposite for water shutoff. The method includes applying a surface polymerization to sand particles. The surfaced polymerization formed by combining a polymerization initiator dissolved in a solvent with the sand particles to form a precursor sand mixture, combining a co-monomer and additional polymerization initiator in the presence of graphene, where the graphene is not functionalized, to form a precursor polymer mixture, and combining the precursor sand mixture and the precursor polymer mixture to form a sand-copolymer-graphene nanocomposite. The method further includes drying the sand-copolymer-graphene nanocomposite, preparing a polymer hydrogel, and combining the polymer hydrogel and the sand-copolymer-graphene nanocomposite to crosslink the components and form the polymer-sand nanocomposite. The associated method of forming a barrier to shut off or reduce unwanted production of water in a subterranean formation utilizing the polymer-sand nanocomposite is also provided.

A method for zonal isolation in a subterranean formation includes identifying a zone of interest within the subterranean formation, determining a static temperature of the zone of interest, determining a time duration for gelation of a treatment fluid, determining a concentration of a cross-linker in the treatment fluid, determining a volume of the treatment fluid to be delivered to the zone of interest, determining a correlation between cooling of a wellbore near the zone of interest and a delivery rate of the treatment fluid, determining a target wellbore temperature, delivering a cooling stage until the target wellbore temperature is reached, and delivering a treatment stage. Delivering the cooling stage and the treatment stage results in forming, within the zone of interest, a gel that is impermeable to fluid flow.

Rigless method for selective zonal isolation in subterranean formations using polymer gels

A method for shutting off a wet interval of a wellbore includes producing hydrocarbons from a hydrocarbon bearing subterranean formation through a production string installed in the wellbore, identifying the wet interval of the wellbore, perforating the production string in the wet interval using an explosive-free punch tool to produce a plurality of openings in the production string, isolating the production string in the wet interval, treating the wet interval with a sealing composition injected through the plurality of openings into an annulus of the wellbore in the wet interval, and restoring a fluid flow path through the production string in the wet interval. The restored fluid flow path through the wet interval enables continued production of hydrocarbons from downhole intervals, while the sealing composition cured in the annulus provides a barrier to prevent fluid flow from the wet interval into the production string.
