A stator winding includes a plurality of conductors including ducts. The ducts can be connected to a heat pipe or a conduit providing a coolant flow to directly cool the winding. The heat pipe can be connected to a heat exchanger that includes a coolant flow. The stator winding can be produced using additive manufacturing, with hollow ducts extending through leg sections and solid end sections. The heat exchanger can also be additively manufactured. A circuit for driving an electrical machine can be in thermal communication with the heat exchanger, such that the thermal system manages both the stators and the drive circuit.

A multi-port converter includes a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) that provides a faster dynamic response to load changes than prior art systems, and enables either downsizing of the main energy storage system (ESS) to increase the life of the main ESS (e.g. energy battery), or retaining the same size ESS and increasing the range or life of the power source. The multi-port convertor can advantageously result in lower investment and maintenance costs, and can also advantageously provide a path for inputs to directly feed the load. All these benefits can be achieved while reducing the number of active switches and overall component count as compared to prior art systems.

An AC electric machine that includes a dual magnetic phase material ring is disclosed. The AC electric machine includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly positioned within the stator assembly and configured to rotate relative thereto, the rotor assembly comprising a rotor core including a stack of rotor laminations that collectively form the rotor core, the rotor core including a plurality of rotor poles separated by gaps therebetween. The AC electric machine also includes a dual magnetic phase material ring positioned about the stack of rotor laminations, the dual magnetic phase material ring comprising a first ring portion comprising a magnetic portion and a second ring portion comprising a non-magnetic portion.

A disk brake system includes a magnetically encoded disk brake rotor having at least one magnetized section encoded therein and a disk brake caliper comprising a plurality of disk brake pads attached thereto, the disk brake pads positioned adjacently to the disk brake rotor and configured to frictionally engage the disk brake rotor upon operation of the disk brake caliper. The disk brake system further comprises a sensor assembly mounted proximately to the disk brake rotor and comprising at least one magnetic field sensor configured to detect the at least one magnetic field, and a controller configured to receive signals from the at least one magnetic field sensor. The controller is further configured to enable selective operation of the disk brake caliper based on the signals received from the at least one magnetic field sensor.

Apparatus and method for advanced anti-skid brake and traction controls

A rotor for an electric machine includes a rotor core constructed of magnetically-permeable material. The rotor core may include a first cavity having a first curved end portion and a second cavity having a first curved end portion disposed adjacent the first curved end portion of the first cavity. The rotor may also include a permanent-magnet cluster. The permanent-magnet cluster may include a permanent-magnet layer that substantially magnetically isolates a portion of the rotor core disposed inside the permanent-magnet cluster from portions of the rotor core disposed outside the permanent-magnet cluster. The permanent-magnet layer may include one or more permanent-magnet pieces disposed in the first cavity and one or more permanent-magnet pieces disposed in the second cavity.
