Data/telecommunication cables that include one or more layers of an integral, bonded electromagnetic shield are described. The shield may be configured to form an electrical ground path.

Multi-layered, shielded and grounded cables and related methods

A number of connectors and related methods that allow for high data rate transmissions are described. An example connector includes a housing and a wafer. The water includes signal conductors, a ground conductors, a flexible shield, and a rigid shield. The flexible shield includes terminal end portions, cantilever spring end portions, and a flexible shield body between the terminal end portions and the cantilever spring end portions. The flexible shield body covers a first portion of the ground conductors, and the rigid shield covers a second portion of the ground conductors.

The connector includes a pair of edge coupled conductive signal terminals and a ground shield to which the signal terminals are broadside coupled. The connector includes a pair of ground terminals aligned with the signal terminals and both sets of terminals have J-shaped contact portions that flex linearly when the connector is inserted into a receptacle. In another embodiment, the signal terminal contact portions are supported by a compliant member that may deflect when the connectors engage contact pads on a substrate.

Wire to board connectors suitable for use in bypass routing assemblies

A connector for use in a free-standing connector port for mating with an external pluggable module is disclosed. The connector has terminals that extend lengthwise of the connector so that cables may be terminated to the terminals and the terminals and cable generally are horizontally aligned together. The connector includes a housing and a pair of connecting elements that flank a card-receiving slot of the connector. The cables exit from the rear of the connector elements and from the connector port. The connector elements engage the connector port to fix the connector in place within the connector port.

A cable connector for use in a bypass assembly is disclosed. Twin-ax cables are directly terminated to the cable connector. The cable connector includes a sub-connector that includes terminals that have termination portions extending outwardly and signal conductors from the bypass cables are aligned with the termination portions and welded together. A carrier and ground collar can help connect termination portions that are intended for ground terminals together to form commoned ground terminals.
