Provided is a thermoplastic resin composition and a molded article excellent in balance of color developability and low-temperature impact resistance, where a polyorganosiloxane-containing graft copolymer in which a rubber (A) containing a polyorganosiloxane (A1) and a vinyl polymer (A2) is grafted with a vinyl monomer (b), wherein the vinyl polymer (A2) includes 90 to 100% by mass of a monofunctional vinyl monomer (a1) and 10 to 0% by mass of a polyfunctional vinyl monomer (a2) with respect to 100% by mass of the vinyl polymer (A2), wherein the glass transition temperature of the homopolymer of the monofunctional vinyl monomer (a1) is 0&#xb0; C. or higher, and the peak of tan &#x3b4; of the polyorganosiloxane-containing graft copolymer is in the range of &#x2212;125&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;90&#xb0; C.

A resin composition having all of higher pigment colorability, low-temperature impact resistance, and flame retardance is provided. A graft copolymer is a polyorganosiloxane-containing graft copolymer formed by polymerizing one or more grafting vinyl monomers (b) in the presence of a rubber (A) containing polyorganosiloxane and a vinyl polymer, wherein the index of refraction of the rubber (A) is in the range of 1.47 to 1.56, and the volume-average particle size is in the range of 300 nm to 2000 nm. Disclosed is an impact strength modifier (&#x3b1;) for a chlorine-containing resin, comprising a powder of a graft copolymer (A) obtained by graft polymerizing one or more kinds of vinyl monomers (b1) onto a polyorganosiloxane rubber (A1) or a composite rubber (A2) containing a polyorganosiloxane rubber and a polyalkyl(meth)acrylate rubber, wherein the specific surface area of the powder of the graft copolymer (A) measured by a nitrogen gas adsorption method is from 0.6 to 30 m/g, and the pH of water used for extraction under conditions, in which (1) in an oven at 180&#xb0; C., 5.0 g of the powder of the graft copolymer (A) is left to stand still and heated for 15 minutes, and (2) after the heating, the powder is dispersed in 100 ml of heated pure water and extracted for 1 hour at 70&#xb0; C. while stirring, is from 4 to 11.

A graft copolymer capable of providing impact resistance, flame retardance, and color rendering properties to a thermoplastic resin is described. The graft copolymer contains a polyorganosiloxane, and is obtained by graft-polymerizing vinyl monomers including a (meth)acrylate ester (b) having an alkyl group or an aromatic group and an aromatic vinyl monomer (b) on a polyorganosiloxane-based rubber. The graft copolymer has a volume average particle diameter of 200-2000 nm, and contains 0.1-69 mass % of polyorganosiloxane. A thermoplastic resin composition is also described, containing a thermoplastic resin (A), the graft copolymer, a fluorine resin (C) and a flame retardant (D). A molded article is also described, which is obtained by molding the thermoplastic resin composition.

A variety of molded bodies having high weatherability, impact resistance, designability, and the like, and a polyorganosiloxane latex and a graft copolymer used as the raw materials therefor are provided, where the polyorganosiloxane latex has a mass average particle diameter (Dw) of a polyorganosiloxane particle of 100 to 200 nm, and a ratio of the mass average particle diameter (Dw) to a number average particle diameter (Dn) (Dw/Dn) of 1.0 to 1.7. A polyorganosiloxane-containing vinyl-based copolymer (g) obtained by polymerizing one or more vinyl-based monomers in the presence of the latex. A graft copolymer (G) is obtained by graft polymerizing one or more vinyl-based monomers in the presence of the copolymer. A thermoplastic resin composition includes the graft copolymer (G) and a thermoplastic resin (Ha) except for the graft copolymer (G). A molded body is obtained by molding the resin composition.

Disclosed is a method for producing powder of a vinyl polymer containing a silicone polymer, which comprises the step of spray-drying a latex of the vinyl polymer containing a silicone polymer obtained by polymerization of a vinyl monomer in the presence of a latex of the silicone polymer, wherein 3.0 mmol or less of a sulfate is contained in 100 g of the powder of a vinyl polymer containing a silicone polymer. According to the present invention, a powder which can provide a shaped article excellent in impact resistance and hydrolysis resistance in the case when the powder is blended in a resin such as polycarbonate resin can be obtained.
