According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical element includes a substrate, an alignment film, and a liquid crystal layer. The alignment film includes a plurality of first areas and a second area. The liquid crystal layer includes a first alignment area overlapping with the first area and including a plurality of first liquid crystal molecules forming an alignment pattern in which longitudinal axes of the first liquid crystal molecules successively vary and a second alignment area overlapping with the second area and including a plurality of second liquid crystal molecules, longitudinal axes of the plurality of second liquid crystal molecules being arranged in the same direction.

Liquid crystal optical element and manufacturing method of the same

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal optical element includes a transparent substrate having a first main surface, an alignment control layer having a plurality of convex bodies, and a liquid crystal layer having a cholesteric liquid crystal. The alignment control layer has a first alignment area in which the convex bodies are arranged at a first pitch, and a second alignment area in which the convex bodies are arranged at a second pitch. The second pitch is less than the first pitch. The liquid crystal layer has a first liquid crystal area which overlaps the first alignment area, and a second liquid crystal area which overlaps the second alignment area.

Liquid crystal optical element comprising an alignment control layer having a plurality of convex bodies

According to one embodiment, an alignment processing device includes a light source, a polarizing beam splitter, a first optical system, a second optical system, a first retardation film, a second retardation film, a moving mechanism configured to move a processing substrate in which a thin film is formed, and a controller. Interfering light is formed in an exposure area by first circularly polarized light and second circularly polarized light. The controller performs control so as to repeat a process of exposing part of an area of the thin film by the interfering light and a process of moving the processing substrate.

Alignment processing device and manufacturing method of liquid crystal optical element

The purpose of the present invention is to realize the photo alignment film which has good alignment ability and good adhesive strength with the seal material. The structure of the invention is: A liquid crystal display device including a first substrate, having pixel electrodes and a first alignment film, and a second substrate adhere to each other by seal material, and the liquid crystal being sealed inside, in which the first alignment film is formed from a first polyimide, which receives a photo alignment treatment, and a second polyimide, which does not receive the photo alignment treatment, the first polyimide exists 75 to 98 weight % at a surface of the first alignment film on the pixel electrode and at an interface with the seal material, the second polyimide increases gradually in going to depth direction from the surface of the first alignment film in a cross sectional view.
