An inkjet recording apparatus can reduce operations or time for preliminary discharge and reduce the influence of mist. A recovery mechanism portion is provided in which a slide member on which a cap is mounted is moved along cam surfaces following a movement of a carriage to cause the cap to abut against a recording head for capping. A first preliminary discharge position where ink is discharged from the recording head into the cap and a second preliminary discharge position where a distance between the recording head and the cap is shorter than the distance in the first preliminary discharge position are provided between a recording area where the recording head forms an image on a recording medium and a capping position.

Inkjet recording apparatus

An inkjet recording apparatus with a simple and inexpensive configuration, in which a relative position between a recording unit and a wiper can be controlled at an appropriate position in wiping a discharge port surface, is provided. The inkjet recording apparatus can securely perform the wiping, even if a convex part is formed on the discharge port surface. In wiping a discharge port surface, a wiper holder abuts onto a carriage or a recording unit to position not only a relative position between wipers and the carriage or the recording unit in a direction perpendicular to the discharge port surface, but also a relative position in the direction of discharge port arrays of the discharge port surface.

A rotatable locking lever is provided in a slider and is movable in a direction intersecting a moving direction of a carriage, and the slider is made to stop in a wiping position by the locking lever being locked by an apparatus main body side when the slider moves to a wiping position. It is possible to regulate an approach amount of a wiper to a recording head with a high degree of accuracy even if horizontal portions are not provided on cam surfaces for restricting a position of the slider mounting the wiper.
