A cylinder head of an internal combustion engine is provided with a cylinder head housing and with a divided camshaft bearing rail having a lower part, which comprises lower bearing blocks, and having an upper part, which comprises upper bearing covers. In addition, the cylinder head has a cylinder head cover. The upper part of the camshaft bearing rail is designed so that it is closed like a hood, in particular, in the area between the bearing covers.

The invention concerns a device and method for cooling and preheating, especially of transmission fluid, of an internal combustion engine, with an equalization tank, with at least one radiator, which can be connected by means of an engine thermostat when a predetermined temperature is reached in the cooling loop, and with a water/oil heat exchanger. It is prescribed according to the invention that the forward stream (,) of a single water/oil heat exchanger (,) be branched off in the heating phase by means of a valve unit (,) essentially from the main cooling loop (,) of the internal combustion engine (,) and that its forward stream (,) in the cooling phase be taken by means of the same valve unit (,) essentially in the coolant side stream (,) from the low-temperature region (,) of the radiator (,) or a separate low-temperature cooler (,) connected in the side stream after radiator (,). The method proposes that the forward stream (,) of the water/oil heat exchanger (,) be taken in the heating phase essentially from the main coolant stream (,) not flowing through the radiator (,), that switching to cooling operation occur at a temperature lying somewhat below the switch point of the engine main thermostat (,) and the forward stream (,) of the water/oil heat exchanger (,) in cooling operation be branched off essentially from the low-temperature region (,) of radiator (,), or from a low-temperature cooler (,) additionally connected in the side stream after radiator (,).

Device and method for cooling and preheating

The screw of the invention is characterized by a threaded shank of which the foot segment is an elastomer and of which the head segment is a dimensionally stable material, preferably a plastic. The screw comprising an elastomer buffer integrated into it in this manner is used to decouple vibrations from two components to be connected without having to resort to any further accessory means. Preferably the screw is used as a locking screw and foremost is applicable to affix a motor vehicle water radiator to a base.

A heat exchanger assembly is provided attachable to a frame of a vehicle. The heat exchanger assembly includes first and second support brackets attachable to a frame of a vehicle so as to define a mounting space therebetween having closed sides in two facing planes, the first and second support brackets each having a surface thereon transverse to the planes. The heat exchanger assembly also includes a first heat exchanger disposed within the mounting space, the first heat exchanger supported on the surfaces of the first and second brackets and releasably secured to the first and second support brackets. The heat exchanger further includes a second heat exchanger disposed within the mounting space, the second heat exchanger supported on the surfaces of the first and second brackets and releasably secured to the first and second support brackets separately from the first heat exchanger.

A thermostatic valve assembly includes three housing components (16, 18, 20) containing two interconnected chambers (64, 78). A first thermally responsive valve unit (68) is disposed in the chamber (64) while a second thermally responsive valve element (98) is disposed in the chamber (78). Both the chambers (64) and (78) have inlets (60, 110) and the chamber (64) has an outlet (66). The valve may assume configurations allowing a minimal flow (FIG. 2), a large volume warm up flow (FIG. 3), a mixed flow regimen (FIG. 4) and a pure cooling flow regimen (FIG. 5).

In order to control the temperature of the transmission oil of a motor vehicle driven by a liquid-cooled engine, a coolant/transmission oil heat exchanger is provided. The coolant stream supplied to the heat exchanger is miscible in a thermostatic valve from recooled and non-recooled coolant in order to achieve a desired temperature. Preferably the thermostatic valve is controlled by the temperature of the transmission oil, but it is also possible to have two expanding material elements as control pistons of the thermostatic valve, with one control piston being provided in the oil chamber of the thermostatic valve and the other control piston being provided in the coolant mixing chamber of the thermostatic valve. It is also possible, for purposes of precontrol, to electrically heat at least one of the control pistons.

According to a first aspect of the invention, a cooling module comprises a cooling system which comprises a radiator. A fan for generating air flow across the radiator also has a fan housing attached to the radiator in which the fan is located so that the fan is disposed relative to the radiator such that the fan may generate air flow across the radiator. A mounting plate is also attached to the radiator and has a first side facing the radiator and a second side. The mounting plate has attachment sites on the second side integral therewith on which other parts of the cooling system are mountable and channels integral therewith through which a coolant flowing through the cooling system may pass.

Two alternative flow patterns through a heat exchanger core are provided by a tank (20) including a baffle (40) dividing the tank into first and second chambers (42 and 44). A first port (50) is provided in the baffle (40) to establish communication between the chambers (42 and 44). A second port (52) is provided to the second chamber (44). The tank (20) further incudes plugs (62 and 64) that are receivable in the tank (20) for alternatively closing the first port (50) while opening the second port (52), and opening the second port (52) while closing the first port (50).

Cooling circuit for internal combustion engines, with an excess-pressure valve which, when the cooling circuit is under full thermal load, limits the pressure in the feed to a value at which the pressure on the suction side of the coolant pump is always above the boiling pressure of the cooling medium, even at full delivery level of the coolant pump.
