Embodiments disclosed herein include systems and methods for administering a drug over a time period. One embodiment of a system includes an administration unit, a housing that houses the administration unit, and a controller unit adapted to receive an alarm triggering signal. Also included in some embodiments is an alarming unit that is adapted to generate an alarm signal on reception of the alarm triggering signal. Some embodiments include a patient state monitor that includes a motion-sensitive sensor unit that is reactive on patient motion. The patient state monitor may be adapted to process a sensor signal generated by the motion-sensitive sensor unit. The patient state monitor may also be adapted to transmit the alarm triggering signal to the controller unit if a patient motion level is below a predefined motion level, as determined by a length of time without patient motion.

In one embodiment, an ambulatory insulin infusion system may include an administration module for insulin administration, a data collection module for collecting data relevant for the bolus amount, and a delay module. The administration module may administer insulin continuously according to a basal profile and a bolus on demand. The bolus has a bolus amount. The data collection module may be operatively coupled to the administration module. The delay module may trigger administration of the bolus a therapeutically significant delay interval after the data is collected.

An ambulatory medical device is presented. The ambulatory medical device comprises a function module to provide the intended functionality of the device, a controller module to control the device, a sound generation module with an acoustic transducer to produce an acoustic signal and a signal generator to drive the acoustic transducer with a certain frequency. The signal generation module is arranged within a housing of the device. A tuning module varies the frequency used by the signal generator to drive the acoustic transducer and determines one or more frequencies that correspond to an optimum sound level of the acoustic signal outside of the housing of the device. The optimum sound level of the acoustic signal is a maximum sound level outside of the housing of the device, and/or a maximum perceivable sound level as determined by a user.

Included are embodiments of an ambulatory infusion device. Some embodiments include a battery receiving portion that receives a user-replaceable battery of variable individual characteristics. The user-replaceable battery may serve as a primary power source of the ambulatory infusion device and being successively depleted during application. Similarly, some embodiments include a dosing unit with an electrically powered actuator and an electronic controller that controls operation of the ambulatory infusion device. Still some embodiments include a testing unit that is operatively coupled to the electronic controller, the testing unit being designed to carry out a battery test, the battery test including determining an off-circuit voltage and an internal resistance of the user-replaceable battery. Still some embodiments include an alerting unit that is operatively coupled to the testing unit and/or the electronic controller to provide an alert to a device user in dependence of a battery test result.

An administration device for the administration of a liquid drug in adjustable doses may comprise an injection unit and an electronic indication unit. The injection unit may comprise a dosing mechanism and a manually operated dose setting component. The manually operated dose setting component may adjust the dosing mechanism to administer an administration dose amount of the liquid drug. The electronic indication unit may indicate a relationship between the administration dose amount and a target dose amount. A method for setting a dose of a liquid drug for administration may comprise providing an administration device, operating a manually operated dose setting component of the administration device, and continuing to operate the dose setting component until an electronic indication unit indicates that the administration dose amount is equal to the target dose amount.

According to one embodiment, an administration device for subcutaneous administration of a liquid drug over an extended period of time is provided. The administration device may include an administration unit, a housing, and a controller unit. The administration unit may include a drug reservoir and a pump unit. The housing may include the administration unit and may be adapted to be carried by a patient over an extend period of time. The controller unit may include a bolus administration profile controller. The bolus administration profile controller receives a bolus volume of a bolus to be administered and determines based, at least in part, on the bolus volume a bolus administration profile such that a depot volume of a depot is limited.

Insulin delivery systems include a first insulin pump and a second insulin pump, wherein each pump includes a memory configured to store an infusion program, a control unit configured to control operation of the pump, and a communication interface for data exchange with the other pump, wherein the control unit of the first insulin pump is configured monitor, a status of the first insulin pump, activate a search for the presence of the second insulin pump when a predetermined status is assumed, and, upon detection of the presence of the second insulin pump, transmit, via the communication interface of the first insulin pump, the infusion program stored, and the control unit of the second insulin pump is configured to search for the presence of the first insulin pump, and, upon detection of the presence of the first insulin pump, receive and store, the infusion program.
