The present invention relates to a process for preparing diols by hydrogenating a mixture comprising carboxylic acid, carboxylic anhydrides and/or carboxylic esters/lactones by means of a cobalt-comprising catalyst, wherein alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal ions are added to the hydrogenation feed, excluding alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal ions of mineral acids.

The invention relates to a process for preparing hydroxyl-containing polymers, in particular for preparing polytetrahydrofuran with terminal hydroxyl groups, from the corresponding acyloxy-containing polymers by transesterification with alcohols in the presence of a sodium-containing catalyst. In this process the polytetrahydrofuiran solution is passed in the presence of a catalytic amount of water directly through at least one ion exchanger following the transesterification in order to remove the sodium cations. The novel process makes it possible to remove the sodium cations from the sodium-containing catalyst in an economic manner and with little complexity. The residual sodium content can be reduced to values of less than 0.5 ppm.

A process for the preparation of 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine from 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexanone which requires three spatially separated reaction spaces, in order to carry out the following three steps in sequence: a) reacting the 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexanone with excess ammonia on acidic metal-oxide catalysts in a first reaction space at from 20.degree. to 150.degree. C. and from 50 to 300 bar, b) hydrogenating the resultant reaction products using hydrogen in a second reaction space in the presence of excess ammonia and preferably liquid ammonia on hydrogenation catalysts, optionally using basic components or on neutral or basic supports at from 50.degree. to 100.degree. C. and at from 50 to 300 bar, and c) hydrogenating the resultant reaction products in the presence of hydrogen and also ammonia in a third reaction space on hydrogenation catalysts, optionally using basic components or on neutral or basic supports at from 110.degree. to 160.degree. C. and at from 150 to 300 bar. These three steps in sequence provide a substantially complete reaction of the original 3-cyano-3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanone reactant with a yield of 96% of the desired diamino product in which the cis-content of the diamine is 70%.

Immobilized lipase is prepared by forming a mixture of hydrophilized polyolefin fibers, crude porcine pancreas lipase, one or more water soluble dihydric to hexahydric aliphatic alcohols of 2 to 6 carbons and an aqueous buffer solution of pH 5-9 at a temperature of 0.degree. to 40.degree. C., allowing the mixture to stand for 1 minute to 3 days, filtering the mixture and washing the resultant filter cake. The dihydric to hexahydric alcohol may be combined with one or more water soluble monohydric alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms. Lipase is immobilized by mixing a substrate, a crude porcine pancreatic lipase, an aqueous buffer solution at pH 5-9 and one or more water-soluble polyhydric aliphatic alcohols having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms and from 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups at a temperature of from 0.degree. to 40.degree. C. to form a mixture, allowing the mixture to stand for from 1 minute to 3 days, filtering the mixture to produce a filter cake and washing the cake to obtain the immobilized lipase. The substrate is a pulverulent, insoluble, only slightly swellable copolymer of one or more N-vinyllactams of 4 to 6 carbon atoms with a cyclic amide which contains two or more ethylenically unsaturated, copolymerizable groups, one or more of which are bonded directly to amide nitrogen. The polyhydric aliphatic alcohol can be combined with one or more water-soluble monohydric alcohols having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The filter cake can be treated with a crosslinking agent such as a water-soluble glycidyl ether which is prepared by reacting an epoxide with a polyfunctional alcohol to form an adduct and reacting the adduct with epichlorohydrin followed by cyclization to give an epoxide. The immobilized lipase is used for resolving a racemate of an ester of a racemic alcohol such as a racemate of glycidyl butyrate.
