A method of controlling a dual fuel engine configured to receive a first fuel and a second fuel includes operating the engine using the first fuel, measuring a current load of the engine, sending a first signal to a first fuel system to deliver an amount of the first fuel to the engine, and determining at least one first operating parameter associated with the engine. The method also includes determining an engine load estimate based on the first signal and the at least one first operating parameter, comparing the engine load estimate to the measured load, and based on the comparison, determining, an adjusted engine load estimate to compensate for a drift in the first fuel system.

System and method for controlling fuel substitution in a dual fuel engine system

A control system for an internal combustion engine structured to operate using at least a first fuel includes at least one sensor configured to sense a condition within at least one cylinder of the internal combustion engine, and a controller operably connected to the at least one sensor. The controller is configured to receive at least one fueling request corresponding to at least the first fuel, send at least one fueling command to at least one injector within the internal combustion engine system corresponding to the at least one fueling request, receive at least one signal from the at least one sensor corresponding to the condition, estimate an actual fueling amount within the internal combustion engine based on the at least one signal, and determine at least one compensation amount corresponding to the at least one injector based on the actual fueling amount.

A control system for an internal combustion engine includes at least one sensor configured to measure a combustion signal within at least one cylinder of a plurality of cylinders within the internal combustion engine. The combustion signal corresponds to a first combustion cycle. The control system also includes a controller operably connected to the at least one sensor. The controller is configured to receive the combustion signal from the at least one sensor and determine whether the measured combustion signal satisfies at least one condition associated with the internal combustion engine. The at least one condition corresponds to the at least one of engine misfire or delayed combustion. The controller is further configured to, based on the determination, reduce a fueling amount to the at least one cylinder for a predetermined number of combustion cycles following the first combustion cycle.

The method also includes adjusting the gas flow target based on at least one of a measured gas temperature or a measured gas injector pressure and determining at least one base gas injector command based on the adjusted gas flow target, a gas substitution rate estimate, and a gas substitution rate target. The method further includes determining, based on the at least one base gas injector command, a gas injector command for at least one engine bank.
