In some embodiments, a method and apparatus are described for moving heavy objects while providing for precise movements and alignments along any desired path, making the apparatus ideally suited for moving heavy equipment including tunnel boring equipment or structures, such as land drilling rigs. In certain embodiments, an apparatus may include at least two load bearing subassemblies. Each load bearing subassembly can include a support structure configured to support a load, a bearing mat; and a plurality of linear actuators coupled between the support structure and the bearing mat. The plurality of linear actuators may be configured to raise, shift, and lower the load relative to the bearing mat or reference base to move the load.

Method and apparatus for moving heavy objects

A land drilling rig and associated methods are described that facilitate fast rig up of the drilling rig for drilling a well. In some embodiments, the drilling rig may include a rear trunk, a center trunk, and an alignment frame. The alignment frame may be coupled to an edge of the rear trunk and to an edge of the center trunk during unloading of one of the rear trunk and the center trunk from a trailer to align them during unloading. The drilling rig may be formed form a plurality of components, some of which may be dual purpose structures that store equipment during transit, testing, and rig up and that form a part of the support structure of the drilling rig. Further, base boxes may include moveable feet that can be controlled to walk the base boxes and the drilling rig to a selected location.

Land drilling rig and methods of assembly

The invention relates to a pipe handling apparatus that delivers and positions tubulars at a wellhead and a device for assisting pivotal movement of a boom relative to a base of the apparatus. A pneumatic spring assembly is pivotally connected between the boom and base. During operation, the pneumatic spring assembly urges the boom from a first position to a second position and resists movement of the boom from the second position to the first position. A pneumatic reservoir may be attached to the pipe handling apparatus. A gas-charging assembly fluidically connects the pneumatic spring assembly and pneumatic reservoir and allows the pneumatic reservoir to vary the pneumatic pressure within the pneumatic spring assembly. Sensors mounted in the pipe handling apparatus may provide feedback to a controller which may automatically adjust the amount of pneumatic pressure within the pneumatic springs for ideal performance of the springs.

Raise-assist and smart energy system for a pipe handling apparatus

An apparatus for centering a first tubular with respect to a second tubular at a wellhead in which the apparatus has a frame, a gripping member extending outwardly of the frame and suitable for gripping the first tubular, and a guide member connected to the frame and extending outwardly therefrom. The guide member is positioned below the gripping member. The guide member has a slot therein suitable for receiving a portion of the second tubular therein. The slot of the guide member has a center vertically aligned with a center of the gripping member. The guide member is pivotally connected to the frame.

Stabbing apparatus for centering tubulars and casings for connection at a wellhead

A derrickless system for servicing tubulars at a wellhead has a first tubular handling apparatus with a gripper positioned adjacent the wellhead where the gripper grips a surface of one of the tubulars, a second tubular handling apparatus with a gripper positioned adjacent the wellhead where the gripper grips a surface of another of the tubulars, and a slip assembly positioned in the wellhead. The slip assembly has a wedge bowl positioned at the wellhead that is suitable for receiving the tubular therein, and wedges positioned in the wedge bowl that are suitable for positioning between the wedge bowl and the tubular. Each of the grippers of the first and second tubular handling apparatus has a stab frame and three grippers attached to the stab frame.

Derrickless tubular servicing system and method

An apparatus for connecting or disconnecting a threaded connection of a first tubular member and a second tubular member at a wellhead has a frame movable between a first position adjacent the wellhead and a second position away from the wellhead, a first gripping member connected to the frame and extending outwardly therefrom so as to apply a torque to the first tubular, and a second gripping member movably connected to the frame so as to be movable between a first position away from the wellhead and a second position at the wellhead. The second gripping member is suitable for applying an opposing torque to the second tubular.

Apparatus for pipe tong and spinner deployment

An apparatus for pivoting a boom relative to a frame of a pipe handling system between a first position and a second position has a hydraulic actuator assembly connected to the boom and to the skid, and a pneumatic spring connected to the boom and to the skid. The pneumatic spring has a cylinder with an end pivotally connected to the boom, and a piston with an end pivotally connected to the skid. The hydraulic actuator assembly has a cylinder pivotally connected to the skid, and a piston with an end pivotally connected to the boom. The pneumatic spring urges the boom from the first position toward the second position while resisting movement of the boom from the second position toward the second position.
