The invention concerns a sliding body for sliding systems in which sliding surfaces of sliding and counter components form a gap in which there is a fluid, whereby the sliding body (1) at least in the area of sliding surfaces (10) is comprised of several stacked thin form elements stamped out of foils or cards, which are solidly bonded together on the contact faces. The invention also concerns a process for the production of the sliding body, whereby foils are produced from ceramic slips, in which various hollow chambers and/or recesses are stamped or impressed, a laminating agent is applied to the foils or cards, the foils or cards are stacked into a sliding body packet and the layers of the stack are laminated together, the organic components are partially baked off, after which a post-treatment of the sliding body takes place, then the remainder of the organic components are removed, and then the laminated sliding body is sintered between 1200.degree. and 2200.degree. C., after which an optional post-treatment takes place. The novel sliding body is used especially for production of hydrodynamic enhancement shapes in the sliding surface.

Process and apparatus for manufacturing heat exchangers from ceramic sheets, wherein different flow channels are stamped from or pressed into the sheets, and the formed sheets are joined together with a laminating agent. The stacking of the individual sheets is effected using apparatus in which the sheets are transported to the forming means, applicator means and laminating means by horizontally and vertically displaceable, rotatable and pivotable suction plates. The organic component of the ceramic sheets is expelled from the heat exchanger block obtained in two heating steps with an intermediate forming operation to bring the heat exchanger block to its final dimensions, and the block then fired between 1,200.degree. to 1,700.degree. C. The actual sintering temperature depends on the particular ceramic used, which may comprise Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, SiC, cordierite and/or semiconductive barium titanate compounds.

Process for manufacturing heat exchangers from ceramic sheets

Ceramic flatware handles of hard porcelain, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide or titanium oxide, with a center bore for receiving the tang, wherein the surface of the flatware handle is provided with a press-molded relief pattern. Flatware handles of this type are obtained by mixing the ceramic raw materials with a thermoplastic plasticizing agent and shaping them into blanks at 90.degree. to 150.degree. C. The blanks are then given their surface profile by means of a press molding device and thereafter fired. Such a process is particularly suitable for oval flatware handles and handles having a center bore which is to be equipped with ceramic screw threads.

Electrochemical storage cell with liquid sodium anode and liquid sulfur cathode disposed in a multiplicity of parallel-connected anode and cathode spaces in a part made of a ceramic, ion-conducting solid electrolyte material. The solid electrolyte part comprises profiled ceramic plates which have been sintered together and form mutually parallel channels with thin partitioning walls. The anode spaces formed by the channels are open at the upper end and closed at the opposite end, and the upper ends communicate with a sodium supply. The cathode spaces are open at the upper and lower ends and communicate with a sulfur and cell reaction products supply. Metallic collectors are sunk into the cathode spaces.

Disclosed are means and method for forming elastic connection between ceramic and metallic structural elements. The means comprises a ceramic structural element; a metallic structural element having thermal and elastic properties different from those of the ceramic structural element; and a connecting element connecting the ceramic and metallic structural elements and comprising an insulating resilient body of ceramic material having a thermal conductivity of between about 0.02 and 0.25 W/cmK at a temperature difference between the ceramic and metallic structural elements of from about 100 to 1500 Centigrade degrees, an elastic modulus of between about 5000 and 150,000 N/mm.sup.2 and being substantially free of plastic deformation.

Element and method for connecting ceramic and metallic parts

The invention relates to a recuperative heat exchanger comprising an elongate rotationally symmetric body of ceramic material having radially outwardly extending, flow channels of slot like cross-section extending along the axis of the body. Alternate flow channels extend further toward the surface of the body and further toward the axis of the body, respectively. Inlet and outlet openings are provided for the flow channels about at the ends of the body. The invention also comprises a process for making such a heat exchanger, including extruding ceramic material through an extrusion nozzle with a free cross-section in which core bodies are shaped and positioned for generating the flow channels and inner and outer cover walls defining the flow channels. The invention further comprises the extrusion nozzle in which the process is performed.

Recuperative heat exchanger of ceramic material

Disclosed is a recuperative heat exchanger, comprising a body of ceramic material having a plurality of generally parallel flow channels arranged adjacently to one another generally axially with respect to the body, with adjacent flow channels having a common partition wall. The plurality of flow channels include a plurality of first flow channels for carrying a first heat transfer medium and a plurality of second flow channels, alternatingly arranged with respect to the first flow channels, for carrying a second heat exchange medium. Each of the first channels has an inlet positioned on one lateral side of the body near a first longitudinal end of the body and an outlet positioned in the opposite, second longitudinal end of the body, and each of the second flow channels has an inlet positioned on one lateral side of the body near the second longitudinal end of the body and an outlet in the first longitudinal end of the body. Also disclosed are several processes for manufacturing the disclosed heat exchangers.

Refractory products such as foundry articles and composite metal-ceramic articles are prepared from a sepiolite (2 MgO.3SiO.sub.2.2H.sub.2 O) and silicate containing aluminum titanate.

A heat exchanger of a ceramic body, or the like, having a plurality of elongate flow passages in parallel relationship with the placement of the passages staggered with respect to the opposite end cover walls of the ceramic body, transversely extending parts of both cover walls being absent to expose those staggered passages that pass closer to the respective cover wall, thereby to permit access for fluid media to the flow passages; particular characteristic features of the passages are disclosed.
