A tooth broach designed for use with thin workpieces having its teeth arranged in circumferentially extending sets in each of which the teeth are arranged in groups of one or more teeth, and gaps devoid of teeth between adjacent groups. The teeth are further arranged in longitudinally extending series, in which consecutive teeth in each series are separated by gaps in the adjacent sets. This provides for reduced axial spacing between axially adjacent sets of teeth to maintain cutting action at all times with a thin workpiece.

Pot broach

A finishing broach for a work piece having helical teeth in which an elongated broach body has a multiplicity of series of helically aligned teeth and in which each tooth has sides conforming to the profile shape of the tooth spaces between adjacent teeth on the work piece, and in which the sides of each tooth are inclined to define obtuse and acute included angles at the leading corners. Each series of broach teeth has a leading and a following section. In the leading section at the acute side the teeth are all laterally stepped and backed off. At the obtuse side the teeth are neither laterally stepped nor backed off. In the following section at the obtuse side the teeth are all laterally stepped and backed off. In the following section at the acute side the first few teeth are backed off but are not laterally stepped. The following tooth is neither laterally stepped nor backed off but its side surface is chamfered from the front surface of the tooth rearwardly. The remaining teeth in the following section at the acute side are neither stepped nor backed off.

Helical toothed broach

A tension broach comprising a drawbar, a roughing shell on said bar, a finishing shell on said drawbar, said drawbar supporting said roughing shell against axial movement and limiting rotational movement thereon, said drawbar supporting said finishing shell against axial movement, and means for locating said finishing shell in angular alignment with said roughing shell with provision for slight angular movement.

Broach

A pot broaching machine for cutting small pinions from the solid for use with a pull-up broaching machine, the pot having a multiplicity of solidly abutting flat-sided internally toothed cutting rings and internally slotted support rings, with elongated toothed sticks received in the slots of said support rings, automatic loading and unloading means, and guide means to guide a work blank as it enters the broach.
