A radio node in a network (such as a small cell) that receives predefined handover parameters is described. During operation, the radio node may receive, from a computer (such as a controller), information specifying the predefined handover parameters, where the predefined handover parameters correspond to a density of radio nodes in the network. For example, the radio node may provide, to the computer, information specifying the density of radio nodes in the network. Moreover, the radio node may receive, from the electronic device, information specifying a communication-performance metric associated with the radio node. Next, the radio node may provide, to the electronic device, a recommendation for a handover from the radio node to another radio node in the network based at least in part on the predefined handover parameters, the communication-performance metric and a second communication-performance metric associated with the other radio node.

After a server for implementing a plurality of layers of a radio-based application has been powered on at a location external to a cloud computing environment, connectivity between the server and a monitoring service of a cloud computing environment is verified. Network functions of a radio unit, a distributed unit, a centralized unit, and a core network layer are all executed at the server with respect to a message received from a user equipment device. Status information of the server, collected from the server by the monitoring service, is presented via a programmatic interface.

A radio node that selectively performs a remedial action is described. During operation, the radio node detects a potential change in a location of the radio node relative to a predefined location. For example, the radio node may detect the potential change in the location based at least in part on a change in a network parameter of the radio node and/or by performing a scan of wireless signals in an environment of the radio node. Then, in response to detecting the potential change in the location, the radio node determines the location of the radio node (e.g., by using a positioning system). When there is at least a predefined change in the location of the radio node relative to the predefined location, the radio node selectively performs the remedial action. Notably, the remedial action may include: providing an alert or a notification, discontinuing transmissions, or re-register the radio node.

Automated detection of a radio node location change

During operation, a radio node may perform a network listen for wireless energy associated with a first subset of second radio nodes during a first time interval. Moreover, the radio node may monitor communication associated with a second subset of the second radio nodes during a second time interval and/or handovers between a third subset of the second radio nodes during a third time interval, where a given subset includes zero or more of the second radio nodes. Then, based at least in part on the first subset, the second subset and/or the third subset, the radio node may determine a change to a neighbor-relationship table, where the neighbor-relationship table includes information specifying the radio node and the second radio nodes. Next, the radio node may provide, to the second radio nodes or a computer, information specifying the change to the neighbor-relationship table.
