This invention relates generally to a plant cell with increased yield, preferably under condition of transient and repetitive abiotic stress as compared to a corresponding non-transformed wild type plant cell by increasing or generating one or more activities of RING proteins in plants.

Plants having stress related traits and methods for making the same

The invention provides synthetic nucleic acid sequences encoding proteins of interest that are particularly adapted to express well in plants. The claimed synthetic sequences utilize plant-optimized codons roughly in the same frequency at which they are utilized, on average, in genes naturally occurring in the plant species. The invention further includes synthetic DNA sequence for herbicide tolerance, water and/or heat stress tolerance, healthy oil modifications and for transformation marker genes and selectable marker genes are used. DNA construct and transgenic plants containing the synthetic sequences are taught as are methods and compositions for using the plants in agriculture.

Synthetic genes

The invention is directed to isolated promoters from stem-regulated, defense-inducible genes, such as OMT promoters. The promoters are useful in expression cassettes and expression vectors for the transformation of plants. Particularly, the invention provides transgenic plants of rice and sugarcane that have been modified such that expression of a heterologous coding sequence is directed by an OMT promoter and is limited to stem tissues or may be upregulated by the presence of a defense-inducing agent. The invention also discloses methods for producing the expression vectors and transgenic plants.

The present invention is directed to 5' regulatory regions of a cotton seed-specific gene, &#x3b1;-globulin. The 5&#x2032; regulatory region, or parts thereof, when operably linked to either the coding sequence of a native gene, heterologous gene or a sequence complementary to a native plant gene, direct expression of the coding sequence or complementary sequence in a plant seed. The regulatory regions are useful in expression cassettes and expression vectors for the transformation of plants. Also provided are methods of modulating the levels of a native or heterologous gene such as a fatty acid synthesis or lipid metabolism gene by transforming a plant with the subject expression cassettes and expression vectors.

Cotton &#x3b1;-globulin promoter for seed-specific expression of transgenes

The subject invention relates to high-throughput methods of screening DNA for mutations. These methods offer various unexpected advantages over current methods. In a preferred embodiment, the subject invention includes pooling DNA samples from many plants that were subjected to mutagenesis.
