A method is provided. The method is implemented by a mapping engine. The method includes receiving biometric data of at least a portion of an anatomical structure from at least a catheter and analyzing the biometric data based on an automatic tagging operation, a time weighted local activation time assignment operation, or a discrimination operation. The method also includes determining scar tissue of the portion of the anatomical structure based on the analyzing of the biometric data.

Signal and correction processing for anatomical structure mapping data

Catheterization of the heart is carried out using a framework formed by a plurality of electrically conducting wire loops. The wire loops are modeled as polygons, each subdivided into a plurality of triangles. The wire loops are exposed to magnetic fluxes at respective frequencies, and signals read from the loops. Theoretical magnetic fluxes in the polygons are computed as sums of theoretical magnetic fluxes in the triangles thereof. The location and orientation of the framework in the heart is determined by relating the computed theoretical magnetic fluxes to the signals.

Catheter frame pieces used as large single axis sensors

A system includes a display and a processor. The processor is configured to compute multiple forecasted local activation times (LATs) at different respective locations on cardiac tissue of a subject, by simulating a propagation of a physiological activation potential along the cardiac tissue with a particular portion of the cardiac tissue, which is currently conductive, being non-conductive. The processor is further configured to generate, based on the forecasted LATs, a forecasted electroanatomical map representing a forecasted state of the cardiac tissue following an ablation of the particular portion of the cardiac tissue, and to display the forecasted electroanatomical map on the display. Other embodiments are also described.

Forecasted electroanatomical maps for ablation planning

A catheter is responsive to external and internal magnetic field generators for generating position data of the catheter position and pressure data to determine pressured exerted on a distal end of the catheter when engaged with tissue, with a reduced number of sensing coils and reduced number of sensing coil leads for minimizing lead breakage and failure. The catheter includes a distal section adapted for engagement with patient tissue, where the distal section has a proximal portion, a distal portion and a flexible joint with a resilient member adapted to allow axial displacement and angular deflection between the proximal and distal portions of the distal section. The catheter may have three or less sensing coils with three or less leads, each transmitting signals between a respective sensing coil and the signal processor.

Catheter with combined position and pressure sensing structures

A method for calibrating a medical device is provided. The method implemented by a calibration engine executed by one or more processors. The method includes capturing one or more voltage measurements by one or more components of a catheter, estimating calibration data based on the one or more voltage measurements, and outputting the calibration data to the catheter.

Managing medical device equipment by online magnetic calibration of a catheter

Apparatus, including a probe having a proximal end and a distal end, the probe being configured to be inserted into an organ of a human patient and defining a probe axis. At least two conductors are positioned on the probe at the distal end. The apparatus includes at least two flexible conductive splines, each conductive spline having a first termination and a second termination, the first terminations being electrically connected together at a region on the probe axis beyond the distal end, each second termination being electrically connected to a respective one of the conductors, the splines being configured to bend into respective arcuate forms that encompass a volume. The apparatus also includes a processor configured to receive voltages induced on the splines via the conductors and to calculate a position and orientation of the volume in response to the received voltages.

A calibration method includes receiving magnetic field values, which are generated by a plurality of real magnetic transmitters and are measured at multiple positions on a grid in a region containing a magnetic field perturbing element. Approximate locations of the real magnetic transmitters are received. Using the approximate locations, a respective plurality of imaginary magnetic sources is characterized inside the field perturbing element. Using the measured magnetic field values, the approximate locations, and the characterized imaginary sources, there are iteratively calculated (i) actual locations of the real and imaginary magnetic sources in the region, and (ii) modeled magnetic field values that would result from the real and imaginary magnetic sources at the actual locations. Using the calculated locations, and the modeled magnetic field values at the multiple positions on the grid, a magnetic field calibration function is derived for the region.

Sparse calibration of magnetic field created by coils in metal-rich environment

A method includes receiving an input mesh representation of a cardiac chamber, a set of measured locations on a wall tissue of the cardiac chamber, and a respective set of local activation times (LATs) measured at the locations. The input mesh is re-meshed into a regular mesh including regularized polygons. The set of measured locations and respective LATs is data fitted to the regularized polygons. Respective LAT values are iteratively calculated for the regularized polygons, so as to obtain a cyclic EP activation wave solution over the regular mesh that take account of reentry of an EP wave. An electroanatomical map including the cyclic EP activation wave overlaid on the regular mesh is presented.

Iterative coherent mapping of cardiac electrophysiological (EP) activation including reentry effects

A method includes receiving an input mesh representation of a cardiac chamber, a set of measured locations on a wall tissue of the cardiac chamber, and a respective set of local activation times (LATs) measured at the locations. The input mesh is re-meshed into a regular mesh including regularized polygons. The set of measured locations and respective LATs is data fitted to the regularized polygons. Respective LAT values, and respective probabilities that the wall tissue includes scar tissue, are iteratively calculated for the regularized polygons, so as to obtain an electrophysiological (EP) activation wave over the regular mesh that indicates scar tissue. An electroanatomical map overlaid on the regular mesh, the map including the EP activation wave and the scar tissue, is presented.

Iterative coherent mapping of cardiac electrophysiological (EP) activation including scar effects

A device, system and method for measuring the impedance during a medical procedure being performed on a patient is disclosed. The device, system and method include an electrode capable of being used in the medical procedure, a plurality of patches operationally located on the surface of a body of the patient, and a sensor for measuring a signal between the electrode and at least one of the plurality of patches, the signal being processed using a processor using a first filter and a second filter, and combining the result of the first filter and the second filter using a weighting of the filters to provide a measurement of the impedance, wherein the impedance indicates the end of the medical procedure.
