To reduce the energy needed to unload and reload ladders from and onto the roof of utility vehicles, a ladder rack assembly has been devised which minimizes the movement of the center of gravity of the ladder load when going between a first position atop the vehicle to a second position along a vertical side of the vehicle. To achieve this advantage, the rear and front four-bar linkages are driven by a rotatable drive shaft such that a ladder support member of the front four-bar linkage is at a higher elevation than the ladder support member of the rear four-bar linkage when the two are aligned with the side of the vehicle.

Ladder rack assembly

A rotatable ladder rack assembly for use on motor vehicles incorporates an improved lever mechanism for transferring a ladder load from the roof of the vehicle to a location alongside the vehicle and which allows the ladder rack assembly to be used on hi bay vans. A rotatable coupler is journaled for rotation about the ladder rack's connector rod and includes a slot of a predetermined arc length into which fits a pin passing diametrically through the connector rod. A lever of the first class is designed to pivot about a fulcrum and the shorter lever arm is linked to the rotatable coupler for applying a torque to the connector rod via the pin.

Ladder rack for hi bay vans

A speed controlling hydraulic dampener comprises a tubular housing defining a closed cylindrical chamber for containing a hydraulic fluid. The chamber containing two separate pistons and piston rods that extend through sealed openings in the ends of the housing. The second piston is spring-biased. First and second orifices are provided in the wall of the housing which are connected by a tubular passageway. A special seal arrangement cooperates with the first piston rod and with the wall of the housing defining the cylindrical chamber. This seal includes a third orifice extending longitudinally therethrough and cooperating with this orifice is a flow-controlling needle valve that can be used to adjust the rate of flow of hydraulic fluid from a first portion of the chamber through the first orifice, the tubular passageway and the second orifice to a zone between the first and second pistons.

Speed controlling hydraulic dampener

A ladder rack adapted to be affixed to the roof of a utility vehicle is equipped with a DC motor powered drive which, when actuated, controls the movement of ladders from a location on the vehicle roof to a location alongside the body of the vehicle. The drive includes a DC motor driven lead screw having a traveling nut thereon coupled to an endless chain deployed about a sprocket on an output shaft and a sprocket on an idler shaft such that rotation of the lead screw drives the output shaft. That output shaft is, in turn, coupled to a connecting rod of the ladder rack.

Drive unit for motor vehicle ladder rack

A ladder rack adapted to be attached to a utility vehicles comprises front and rear four-bar linkages where each of the four-bar linkages comprises a base having a post projecting vertically therefrom, a ladder support member comprising a first straight bar or linkage member having a ladder support arm extending perpendicularly therefrom. A second linkage pivotally connects between the post and a first end portion of the first linkage member. Then, a dog-leg linkage having a first end pivotally attached to the first linkage member proximate its mid-point with the second end of the dog-leg linkage coupled to an elongated connecting rod that extends horizontally between the bases of the front and rear four-bar linkages. The connecting rod is journaled for rotation and when turned by a crank or motor transports ladders suspended on the ladder support arm from a position atop the vehicle to a position alongside the vehicle and vice versa.

Truck mounted ladder rack

A lock for selectively allowing and preventing relative longitudinal displacement of an outer and inner telescoping tube segments. It comprises a tubular cam adapted to plug into and rotate with one end of the inner tube segment. It has associated with it a pair of arcuate cam followers, each with an outer and an inner cylindrical surface where the outer cylindrical surface can be forced by the action of the tubular cam to frictionally engage the inner surface of the outer telescoping tube segment upon rotation of the inner telescoping tube segment.

Locking mechanism for telescoping tubular poles

A packaging machine for penny packing products, such as bagels, bread, donuts, in pre-made plastic bags includes an endless chain carrying a plurality of regularly spaced bag grippers, the chain being entrained about sprocket wheels to define first and second flights. The bag grippers pick up a topmost bag from a stack while traversing the first flight and carry it to a bag filling station aligned with the second flight. An infeed conveyor has a plurality of transversely extending product trays containing the articles to be packaged which are transported with intermittent motion to the bag filling station in synchronism with the bag grippers. While the tray is stationary, movement of the bag gripper along the second flight draws the bag over the product-filled tray present at the bag filling station. A product pusher, synchronized with movement of the bag grippers and with the infeed conveyor, pushes the bagged products off the infeed conveyor onto a take-away conveyor.

Apparatus for packing products in preformed bags

An apparatus for facilitating the loading and unloading of heavy ladders from the roof of a motor vehicle comprises a pair of 4-bar linkages that are appropriately affixed to the transversely extending luggage rack members secured to the roof of the vehicle. A connector rod is operatively coupled between the pair of 4-bar linkages and to a crank or other suitable drive member for elevating and rotating the load from a position parallel to the roof of the vehicle to a disposition parallel to one side of the vehicle.

Ladder rack for motor vehicles

A lock for selectively allowing and preventing longitudinal displacement of an outer and inner telescoping tube segments comprises a plug member fastened to one end of the inner tube segment which includes a S-shaped cam projecting outwardly for cooperating with a pair of cam followers that are shaped so that when the inner tube segment is rotated in a first direction relative to the outer one, the two cam followers are drawn out of contact with the inside surface of the outer tube segment. When the inner tube is rotated in the opposite direction, the cam forces the cam followers radially outward so as to abut with substantial friction the inner surface of the outer tube segment.

A locking mechanism for fixing the first and second telescopingly disposed tubular poles longitudinally relative to one another includes a longitudinally extending channel of rectangular cross-section projecting radially from the outermost tube and running the length thereof and an elongated rack having a plurality of spaced, parallel teeth projecting radially outward from the inner tubular member and fitted into the channel of the outer tubular member. Affixed to one end of the outer tubular member is a sleeve on which is rotatably mounted a locking ring having a notch extending along the width dimension thereof and a plurality of parallel, arcuate spaced-apart teeth circumferentially adjacent the notch. When the rack on the inner tubular member is aligned with the notch in the ring, the outer and inner tubular poles can slide relative to one another. By then rotating the locking ring, its teeth are made to mesh with the teeth on the rack of the inner tubular member, preventing further longitudinal displacement between the telescoping pole segments.

Extendable pole locking mechanism for ladder stabilizer

Stabilizer apparatus for attachment to an extension ladder for inhibiting sideways tipping and downward/rearward slipping thereof. Attached to the opposed side rails of the ladder proximate the upper end of the lowermost section are hinge blocks for pivotally joining a pair of tubular, telescoping, extensible legs to the ladder. The hinge brackets are specially designed to permit the tubular legs to be swung parallel to and directly adjacent with the ladder's side rails when the ladder is to be stowed and which the legs to be rotated laterally outward and forward of the base of the ladder during use. An articulated brace extends between the pair of legs and their associated ladder side rails to limit the extent to which the legs may be splayed relative to the ladder.

Ladder stabilizer

An article of footware comprising a shoe having a removable and replaceable heel. Attached to the sole surface of the shoe's upper is a outwardly projecting shaft which is adapted to fit into an internal bore formed in the core of the shoe's heel member. A latch mechanism is provided for inhibiting unintended separation of the heel from the upper.
