A method for delivering a cell to a heart of a patient comprises the steps of providing an apparatus for intracardiac drug administration comprising a catheter wherein the catheter has at least one position sensor which generates signals responsive to the position of a catheter and a drug delivery device for delivering the cell. The catheter is inserted into a chamber of the heart at a site and the cell is delivered to the site with the drug delivery device in response to the signals from the position sensor. Typical cells useful for delivery are either myoblasts or myocytes. These cells may be utilized as either an expression vector for promoting angiogenesis or for cell transplantation and fusion through myogenesis.

Intracardiac cell delivery and cell transplantation

Apparatus for intracardiac drug administration, including a catheter which is inserted into a chamber of the heart and brought into engagement with a site in the heart wall. The catheter includes at least one position sensor, which generates signals responsive to the position of the catheter within the heart, and a drug delivery device, which administers a desired dose of a therapeutic drug at the site determined responsive to the signals from the position sensor.

Apparatus and method for intracardiac therapy using sensor for heart wall thickness

A system for detecting electrode-tissue contact comprises a catheter having a location sensor and a distal tip electrode. The catheter preferably further comprises a reference electrode that is preferably protected from making contact with tissue. The system further comprises a signal generator to transmit test signals to the distal tip and reference electrodes. Tissue contact is detected by comparing the signals across the tip electrode to a return electrode versus the signal across the reference electrode to a return electrode. Ablation energy may be delivered to the distal tip electrode if contact of the electrode with tissue is detected.

A system for detecting electrode-tissue contact comprises a multi-electrode catheter having a location sensor and a plurality of contact electrodes. The catheter preferably further comprises a reference electrode that is preferably protected from making contact with tissue. Multi-electrode catheter, system and method

Methods and apparatus for biostimulation of a myocardial tissue, by irradiating the myocardial tissue with a source of electromagnetic radiation which causes biostimulation of the myocardial tissue. Preferably, the electromagnetic radiation is selected from the group consisting of infrared, visible light and ultraviolet radiation. Typically, the tissue is irradiated after the myocardial tissue develops an infarct of a given size, such that irradiating the myocardial tissue causes a reduction in the size of the infarct. The irradiation may also cause regeneration of cardiomyocytes in the infarct and help to preserve structure and activity of mitochondria in cardiomyocytes in the infarct.

Electromagnetic cardiac biostimulation

A method of treating a patient's heart comprises the steps of identifying an ischemic area of the heart. A plurality of cells are provided and the cells are irradiated in vitro with electromagnetic radiation. The irradiated cells are then implanted into the ischemic area of the heart. The electromagnetic radiation provides biostimulation of the cells. The treated cells are cardio myocetes such as from embrionic heart muscle or skeletal muscle cells. The electromagnetic radiation is in the infrared (IR) range, visible light range, or ultraviolet (UV) range.

Intracardiac drug delivery

An apparatus for intracardiac drug administration of a therapeutic drug comprises a catheter having a distal end and a drug delivery device which is driveable from the distal end. The drug delivery device includes a needle and a spring-loaded mechanism operatively connected to the needle. The spring-loaded mechanism drives the needle out of the distal end of the catheter upon administering of the therapeutic drug. The spring-loaded mechanism returns the needle within the distal end of the catheter after the administering of the therapeutic drug.
