A fluid flow control device, particularly useful for drip-irrigation emitters, for controlling the discharge of a fluid (water) from a discharge port in a fluid conduit (drip irrigation pipe) includes: a housing attachable to the fluid conduit and constructed to define a fluid chamber having an inlet opening communicating with the interior of the fluid conduit, and an outlet opening communicating with the discharge port of the fluid conduit; and a flow control member freely movable within the fluid chamber and having a surface contacting an inner surface of the housing to control the flow of fluid from said fluid chamber out of the fluid conduit via said outlet opening in the housing. One of the contacting surfaces of the flow control member or housing is formed with a protruding pattern such that the two contacting surfaces define small passageways for the flow of fluid from the fluid chamber out of the fluid conduit via the outlet opening. The flow control member is manually accessible, via the outlet opening, to be manually moved away from the outlet opening in the fluid chamber and thereby to flush the small passageways of any clogging particles.

Fluid control devices particularly useful in drip irrigation emitters

In a method and apparatus for amplifying and/or generating electromagnetic wave radiation, a gas plasma region having a non-Maxwellian electron distribution is produced by effecting collisions between scattering particles in the gas with free electrons which have been accelerated to an energy level which is greater than that providing maximum probability of collision of the electrons with scattering particles in said gas; and the electromagnetic wave radiation is subjected to the plasma region such as to produce amplification of the radiation by stimulated emission of Bremstrahlung from scattered free electrons in the plasma region.

A fluid flow control device particularly useful as a multiple-emitter for drip irrigation comprises a housing defining an internal chamber and a freely-movable control member disposed within the chamber and unattached to the housing. The housing includes a waLl defining one side of the chamber and formed with an inlet opening and a plurality of outlet openings. All of these openings face the same side of the freely-movable control member and are located so as to be covered and uncovered by the same side of the control member as the control member moves towards and away from the wall of the housing. The device further includes an inlet tube for connecting the inlet opening to a source of pressurized fluid, and a plurality of outlet tubes, one connected to each of the outlet openings, for conducting the fluid exiting from the respective opening to the point of use of the fluid.

A fluid flow control device particularly useful as a drip irrigation emitter comprises a body member formed with at least two grooves in spaced parallel relationship separated by a separator wall, one of which grooves leads to the inlet and the other to the outlet; and a flexible member overlapping the two grooves and separator wall so as to meter the flow between the two grooves for substantially the complete length of the separator wall in response to the dynamic pressure of the flowing fluid.

Clamping devices particularly useful as pipe couplings comprise a pair of clamping segments interposed between the housing end face and an apertured cap rotationally mounted on the housing, the cap including cam surfaces effective, upon rotation of the cap, to displace the clamping segments radially inwardly to grip the pipe, or radially outwardly to release the pipe. In one embodiment, the clamping segments are of a circle having a radius of curvature larger than the pipe to be clamped. In other embodiments, the clamping segments are formed with inclined walls to define triangular spaces at their adjacent ends, which triangular spaces receive rollable elements adapted to be displaced inwardly, when the clamping segments are displaced outwardly to their released positions, to engage the pipe and thereby to assure its release from the clamping segments.

Clamping devices particularly useful as pipe couplings

A rod clamp particularly useful as a pipe coupling includes at least two coaxial members with aligned bores adapted to receive the pipe to be coupled, each member having an annular shoulder at least one of which is eccentric such that the members can be rotated with respect to the other to either clamp or release the pipe. In one described embodiment, the two coaxial members are a housing and an end cap, respectively. In a second described embodiment, the coaxial members are a plurality of clamping rings having eccentric openings which are receivable within a housing and are rotated by the housing end cap, the clamping rings being coupled to each other by lost-motion connections such that the more the housing end cap is rotated, the greater the number of clamping rings that become effective to clamp the pipe. A third described embodiment is similar to the first one, except that it includes a clamping ring formed with an eccentric annular shoulder between the housing and end cap and coupled to rotate with the latter.

Rod clamp particularly useful as pipe coupling

A spraying device is described comprising a nozzle formed with an outlet orifice through which the fluid issues in the form of a jet, and a cup-shaped member having a thin wall defining an open end of slightly larger diameter than the outlet orifice. The cup-shaped member is floatingly mounted for lateral and axial movement with respect to the nozzle orifice such that the jet issuing therefrom always impinges the cup-shaped member within its open end. The device further includes limiting means limiting the floating movement of the cup-shaped member.

Spray nozzles

A sprinkler is described comprising a nozzle formed with an axial bore having an outlet through which the liquid exits in the form of a jet, a spindle extending through the bore and having a smaller outer diameter than the diameter of the bore so as to be laterally movable within the bore, and a deflector mounted on the spindle and having a recess facing, and slightly larger than, the outlet end of the nozzle bore so as to be impinged by the jet issuing from the nozzle thereby to impart rapid lateral movements to the spindle. The deflector is eccentrically mounted on the spindle, and the recess is formed eccentrically of the deflector, such that the impacts of the spindle against the sides of the bore by its lateral movement within the bore impart a rotary movement to the deflector.

A fluid flow control device particularly useful as a drip-irrigation emitter is described comprising a two-section housing in which a mounting section is adapted to be passed through the wall of a supply pipe with the housing main section disposed within the tube and the outer end of the mounting section open to the atmosphere. A disc is freely movable within the housing main section and includes a stem fixed to one face thereof and passing into the housing mounting section such as to provide a fluid passageway therebetween. The housing main section is formed with an opening facing the face of the disc to which the stem is fixed, the arrangement being such that when pressurized fluid enters the housing main section through the opening, the disc moves towards and away from the opening to control the flow of the fluid into the housing and thereby through the fluid passageway between the disc stem and the inner face of the housing mounting section.

A rotary sprinkler is described comprising a nozzle formed with an axial bore, a spindle extending through the bore and including stops at its opposite ends, and a rotor floatingly mounted on the spindle for rotary and axial movement thereon by the liquid jet issuing from the nozzle bore, the spindle being also axially and laterally movable within the bore such that the rotation of the rotor by the jet self-centers it on the spindle and also self-centers the spindle in the nozzle bore.

A mounting for a water irrigation device comprises a vertical post secured at one end to a ground stake and carrying at its opposite end a cylindrical horizontal socket for frictionally receiving the stem of a fitting adapted to mount the water irrigation device, the latter device being connected to a water supply conduit by a flexible tube having connectors at its opposite ends attachable to the water supply pipe and to the fitting.
