A vehicle control system and method forecast an upcoming intersection area of projected paths of a first vehicle system and a second vehicle system based on current movements of the first vehicle system and the second vehicle system. A reach distance of the first vehicle system is calculated as a distance from a leading edge of the first vehicle system to the intersection area. A difference between the reach distance of the first vehicle system and a designated gap distance with the designated gap distance are compared. The speed of the first vehicle system is automatically reduced responsive to the difference being no smaller than the designated gap distance and/or the first vehicle system is stopped responsive to the difference being smaller than the designated gap distance.

Vehicle control system and method

A vehicle control system is provided that includes a control unit that can be disposed onboard a vehicle to control movement of the vehicle; and one or more transceiver devices that can emit plural signals from the vehicle, with at least one of the plural signals containing a vehicle identifier, and, responsive to a receiver unit disposed off-board the vehicle receiving at least one of the plural signals, the control unit can determine a location of the vehicle and can communicate a signal to the one or more transceiver devices based on the location. The control unit can change the movement of the vehicle based on the vehicle location information.

A mining vehicle control system includes a detection unit configured to determine a proximity of a monitored mining vehicle to a first mining vehicle and a controller configured to determine first protection lines that linearly project from the first mining vehicle and second protection lines that linearly project from the monitored mining vehicle. The first protection lines are determined based on a moving speed of the first mining vehicle. The second protection lines are determined based on a moving speed of the monitored mining vehicle. The controller is configured to direct the first mining vehicle to change movement of the first mining vehicle responsive to intersection of one or more of the first protection lines with one or more of the second protection lines.
