A resecting device for use in tissue removal is disclosed. The resecting device includes a cannula having a hollow and which is sized for introduction into a body. The cannula is formed with at least one, preferably a plurality of, cutting openings each having a cutting edge. The resecting device further includes a rotating mechanism which is connectable through a shaft to the cannula and which serves for rotating the cannula around a longitudinal axis thereof. As a result of such rotation and the cannula's construction, when the cannula is contacted with a tissue, the cutting edges of the cutting openings dissect the tissue and direct the dissected tissue through the openings into the hollow of the cannula.

Device and method for resecting body tissues

An applicator for insertion into a body opening for medical treatment or for diagnostic purposes comprises an elongated jacket for insertion into the body opening, a disposable sleeve received on the jacket, and a balloon integrally formed on the disposable sleeve at one side of the jacket. The balloon is inflatable by a fluid to press the opposite side of the jacket and sleeve laterally against the tissue of the body opening, thereby to fix the position of the jacket within the body opening and to conform the pressed body tissue to the shape of the opposite side of the jacket. The applicator further includes a microwave antenna disposed within the jacket, the jacket further including cooling ducts adjacent its outer surface for circulating a cooling fluid therethrough in order to prevent undue heating of the body tissue in direct contact with the jacket.

Applicator for insertion into a body opening for medical purposes

A catheter for insertion into a body cavity, comprises a tubular shaft formed with a passageway extending longitudinally therethrough closed at one end and open at the opposite end and a probe removably received within the passageway through its open end. The probe includes a temperature sensor for sensing the heat produced by a heating applicator applied to an adjacent area of the body. The heating applicator includes a microwave antenna producing an electromagnetic field for heating the body tissue adjacent to the body cavity, and the sensor including an electromagnetic field detector for detecting the peak of the electromagnetic field produced by the applicator antenna.
