A device for removing a clot from a vessel can have dual layers where an inner expandable body runs within an outer expandable body. The device can have a collapsed delivery configuration, an expanded deployed configuration, and a clot pinching configuration. The inner and outer bodies can be a plurality of cells formed by a network of struts. The openings of the cells align when the device is deployed within the clot, where the radial force from the expanding bodies urges portions of the clot through the openings. The inner and outer bodies can be configured to be selectively translatable relative to each other, so that the portions of the clot in the cell openings can be compressed and gripped when the translation transitions the device to the clot pinching configuration. The translation can be maintained to pinch the clot as it is retrieved from the patient.

An endobronchial probe includes a deflector having a bore extending therethrough at an angle to its long axis for passage of a tool. The probe includes a location sensor and an ultrasound imager. A push-pull anchoring system comprises a plurality of guides and wires that can extend beyond the guides and retract within the guides. When extended the wires diverge from the long axis sufficiently to engage a bronchus. The probe includes a balloon disposed on the distal segment contralateral to bore that when inflated urges the mouth of the bore into contact with the bronchial wall.

A medical tool for operating in a working volume of a magnetic position tracking system includes a first plurality of layers including an electrically conductive material and a second plurality of layers including an electrically insulating material and interleaved with the first plurality. The layers are arranged to reduce eddy current distortion in a magnetic field generated by the magnetic position tracking system.

Reduced field distortion in medical tools

A method for position tracking includes using first and second field generators located at respective different first and second locations to generate respective first and second magnetic fields in a vicinity of first and second objects. The first and second fields are measured using first and second position sensors respectively associated with the first and second objects. First and second potential relative coordinates of the first object relative to the second object are calculated responsively to the first and second magnetic field. The potential relative coordinates are processed in order to determine a correct relative coordinate of the first object relative to the second object.

Resolution of magnetic dipole ambiguity in position tracking measurements

A surgical tracking system includes a wireless position sensor, which is adapted to be implanted in a bone of a subject, and responsively to externally-applied magnetic fields within a working volume of the tracking system, to generate and transmit sensor signals indicative of coordinates of the position sensor within the bone. A plurality of field generator coils are adapted to generate the magnetic fields so as to define the working volume. The field generators are fixed in predetermined locations to a reference structure, which is movable relative to the subject in order to position the working volume so as to intercept the bone. A system controller is coupled to receive and process the sensor signals so as to determine the coordinates of the position sensor within the bone.

Position sensing system for orthopedic applications

A method for producing a coil assembly includes overlaying printed circuit traces on a core. The traces include terminals for coupling to conductive connections on a base on which the coil assembly is to be mounted. Two or more wires are wrapped around the core so as to define two or more coils, wrapped in different, respective directions. The ends of the wires are coupled to the printed circuit traces, so as to connect the wires through the traces to the terminals.

Apparatus for assessing field distortion includes a probe and a processor. The probe includes a mechanical fixture for placement at a location to be tested, and one or more field generators, which are attached to the mechanical fixture and are arranged to generate respective magnetic fields. The probe further includes one or more field sensors, which are attached to the mechanical fixture at known positions with respect to the one or more field sensors and are arranged to sense the magnetic fields generated by the one or more field generators and to output signals responsively to the sensed magnetic fields. The processor is arranged to process the signals so as to assess a distortion of the magnetic fields sensed by the field sensors at the tested location.
