A position sensor includes a flexible substrate formed into a three-dimensional (3D) shape. At least first and second field-sensing coils are formed in first and second respective layers of the flexible substrate, such that in the 3D shape the first and second field-sensing coils have first and second respective axes that are not parallel to one another.

Described embodiments include an apparatus that includes an expandable structure, configured for insertion into a body of a subject, and a plurality of conducting elements coupled to the expandable structure. Each of the conducting elements comprises a respective coil and has an insulated portion that is electrically insulated from tissue of the subject, and an uninsulated portion configured to exchange signals with the tissue, while in contact with the tissue. Other embodiments are also described.

Multi-function conducting elements for a catheter

Described embodiments include apparatus that includes a catheter and a tip electrode, at a distal end of the catheter, shaped to define a plurality of microelectrode apertures. The apparatus further includes at least one printed circuit board (PCB) disposed within a lumen of the catheter, and a plurality of microelectrodes coupled to the PCB and at least partly situated within the microelectrode apertures, the PCB being configured to carry signals from the microelectrodes. Other embodiments are also described.

A catheter includes a shaft for insertion into an organ of a patient, an extendable distal-end assembly, and two or more strengthening elements. The extendable distal-end assembly is coupled to the shaft and includes multiple splines, at least one spline includes a flexible circuit board having one or more electrodes disposed thereon, the circuit board is configured, when the distal-end assembly is extended in the organ, to conform to a surface of the organ so as to make contact between the electrodes and the surface. The strengthening elements are distributed along the circuit board of the spline and are configured to mechanically strengthen the spline.

Ablation apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes an insertion tube, an ablation electrode disposed at a distal end of the tube, a conducting element, and a sensor. The conducting element conducts an ablating current from a proximal end of the tube to the ablation electrode, and the sensor measures an amplitude of the ablating current at the distal end of the tube. Other embodiments are also described.

A catheter has an inflatable assembly at its distal portion, including a containment chamber, an axial core and a plurality of longitudinally oriented partitions extending from the axial core to the wall of the chamber to divide the containment chamber into at least four inflatable sectors. Hydraulic valves are connected to respective sectors to enable selective inflation of the sectors by a fluid when the valves are connected to a source of the fluid, and at least one surface electrode is mounted on each of the sectors. When introduced into a heart chamber and diametrically opposed sectors are inflated the assembly is stably fixed against the walls of the heart chamber and readings can be obtained from the surface electrodes of the inflated sectors.

Segmented balloon catheter

An apparatus includes a sensing unit and control circuitry. The sensing unit is connected to a channel that delivers Electro-Physiological (EP) signals from a cardiac catheter to an EP recording system and pacing signals from the EP recording system to the catheter. The sensing unit is configured to automatically identify time intervals during which the pacing signals are delivered. The control circuitry is configured to route the EP signals on the channel from the catheter to the EP recording system via an intervening system that is detrimental to the pacing signals, to switch the channel to an alternate path that bypasses the intervening system during the identified time intervals, and to route the pacing signals from the EP recording system to the cardiac catheter over the alternate path.
