Various implementations disclosed herein include devices, systems, and methods that authenticate a user's identity by generating a representation of the eye (e.g., a signature) using coherence-based measurement (e.g., optical coherence tomography (OCT)). The coherence-based measurement may provide sub-surface information, e.g., depth, cross section, or a volumetric model of the eye, based on reflections/scattering of light, e.g., using relatively long wavelength light to penetrate into the eye tissue.

Ultrasonic transducers may be used to track the position of an object. For example, eyewear such as a pair of glasses or other head-mounted device may use ultrasonic transducers to track a user's eye position and gaze direction. To increase positioning accuracy over short-range distances, an array of ultrasonic transducers with different center frequencies may be formed on a common substrate. The closely spaced ultrasonic transducers with relatively small individual bandwidths may be used to simulate a single transducer with a larger bandwidth. Control circuitry may adjust the phases of the transducers in the array to steer the ultrasonic signal beam towards the user's eye and/or to receive an ultrasonic signal beam from the direction of the user's eye. The control circuitry may use time delay and/or phase delay measurement techniques to determine a distance and/or direction to the user's eye using the ultrasonic transducer arrays.

An example method for performing playout of multiple media recordings includes receiving a plurality of media recordings, indexing the plurality of media recordings for storage into a database, dividing each of the plurality of media recordings into multiple segments, and for each segment of each media recording, (i) comparing the segment with the indexed plurality of media recordings stored in the database to determine one or more matches to the segment, and (ii) determining a relative time offset of the segment within each matched media recording. Following, the method includes performing playout of a representation of the plurality of media recordings based on the relative time offset of each matched segment.

A method and apparatus for loading data from memory to a cache is provided. The method and apparatus provide substantially improved performance, especially in conjunction with large data arrays for which each element of data is processed completely at once and need not be later accessed. A technique is provided to allow a data element to be loaded directly to a cache location corresponding to the local variable used to process that data element, thereby avoiding copying of the data element to multiple cache locations. In conjunction with the use of non-caching stores of processed results back into main memory, this technique completely avoids cache thrashing within the framework of a conventional microprocessor architecture. This technique is ideally suited for high-performance processing of streaming multimedia data including video processing.

Method and apparatus for loading data from memory to a cache

An approximation circuit approximates a function f(x) of an input value &ldquo;x&rdquo; by adding at least the first two terms in a Taylor series (i.e., f(a) and f&prime;(a)(x&minus;a)) where &ldquo;a&rdquo; is a number reasonably close to value &ldquo;x&rdquo;. The first term is generated by a first look-up table which receives the approximation value &ldquo;a&rdquo;. The first look-up table generates a function f(a) of the approximation value &ldquo;a&rdquo;. The second look-up table generates a first derivative f&prime;(a) of the function f(a). A first multiplier then multiplies the first derivative f&prime;(a) by a difference (x&minus;a) between input value &ldquo;x&rdquo; and approximation value &ldquo;a&rdquo; to generate a product f&prime;(a)(x&minus;a). The approximation circuit can approximate the function f(x) by adding the third term of the Taylor series, (&frac12;)f&Prime;(a)(x&minus;a) .

A signal representation method and apparatus for digital audio provides high quality low cost resampling by transferring the difficult interpolative computations into front-end (off-line) preprocessing, thereby reducing the load on the tone generating synthesis processor. This allows nearly perfect arbitrary-ratio resampling of stored waveforms at a fraction of the cost of prior art resampling. It also allows elimination of the prior art polyphase coefficient table since the waveform reconstruction information is fully contained within the polynomials. This is especially advantageous for execution on general purpose multi-tasking media processors.
