The present invention provides adiabatic plug flow reactors suitable for the production of chlorinated and/or fluorinated propene and higher alkenes from the reaction of chlorinated and/or fluorinated alkanes and chlorinated and/or fluorinated alkenes. The reactors comprise one or more designs that minimize the production of by-products at a desired conversion.

Adiabatic plug flow reactors and processes incorporating the same

Processes for preparing N,N,N-trimethylethanolammonium hydroxide (choline hydroxide) and the choline hydroxide produced are described. These processes minimize the production of byproduct mono-ethoxylated and di-ethyoxylated choline in the product choline hydroxide. The processes generally include feeding ethylene oxide, trimethylamine, and water into a first reactor to create a first reactor product under temperature controlled conditions. The product of the first reactor is fed into a second reactor to form a second reactor product under uncontrolled, adiabatic, conditions. Finally, any unreacted trimethylamine in the second reactor product is removed to form a final product comprising choline hydroxide. Additional reactors can be used for the ethylene oxide and trimethylamine reaction.

The reactors utilize a feed mixture inlet temperature at least 20&#xb0; C. different from a desired reaction temperature.

Brominated polybutadiene polymers are recovered from a bromination reaction solution by forming the solution into droplets, thermally stripping the solvent from the droplets, and then washing the resulting particles. The washed particles are then recovered from the washing liquid. The droplets can be dispersed into a gaseous medium such as air and then transferred into a nonsolvent liquid for washing, or can be formed directly into the nonsolvent liquid. The process forms a particulate polymer material that is easily filterable and has low levels of volatile impurities and inorganic salts. Brominated polybutadiene polymers recovered in this manner are often very thermally stable.
