A surgical implant made of a polymer, copolymer, polymer mixture or polymer composite that dissolves in the organ system. The manufacturing material is dyed with the coloring agent D&C Violet No. 2 or D&C Green No. 6. Preferably, the amount of the coloring agent is at most approximately 0.03 percent by weight and the implant is sterilized by radiation.

Surgical implant

A fastener for the treatment of fractures and the materials for production thereof. The fastener having a head with a contact portion for an installation tool and an attaching part having a treaded portion. The threads of the threaded portion are 5 to 20 % of the height of the outer diameter of the thread. The material for producing the fastener is a blend containing a biodegradable base material and one or more copolymer additives so that at room temperature the ductility of the blend is substantially higher than that of the pure base material. The base material may be a biodegradable polymer and/or a copolymer.

Bone fracture fastener and material for production thereof

An instrument for shaping a mouth part of a drilled tunnel provided in a bone. The instrument includes a shaft having a longitudinal axis and a first and a second end. The first end of the shaft is provided with a projection, which includes a blade for shaping the mouth part of the drilled tunnel when the instrument is turned around the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The instrument is asymmetric at an intersecting surface perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and intersecting with the blade, the instrument thus shaping the surfaces surrounding the first end only substantially within an area corresponding with a turning angle of such a turning movement.

Instrument

Novel polymer compositions that are useful in the manufacture of medical implants, implants having osteogenic properties and methods of making said implants are disclosed. Polymer compositions comprise a base material including a polymer matrix of resorbable polymer(s) or copolymer(s), and N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), wherein NMP is present in an amount imparting osteogenic properties for the composition.

The present invention relates generally to body tissue fixation systems, including body tissue fixation hardware comprising biocompatible, bioabsorbable (resorbable) thermoplastic plates, and methods of using those systems and hardware.

Bioabsorbable, deformable fixation plate

A novel polymer composition is provided which includes a base material including a biodegradable polymer or copolymer, and a copolymer additive including one or more monomers imparting a tensile strength to the polymer composition at room temperature that is lower than a tensile strength at room temperature for the base material.

Resorbable polymer compositions

The present invention relates to a surgical fastener or device (implant) formed in the shape of an arrow comprising a shaft with a proximal (first) portion having a blunt end and tapered form, such that the proximal portion is broad at its blunt end and tapers in the direction of a distal (second) portion of the shaft, the distal portion having protrusions and a pointed end, wherein the tapered form of the proximal portion and the protrusions of the distal portion are configured to lock the implant in a position inside a soft and/or tough tissue according to the use of the implant. The implant may be manufactured of a polymer or a polymeric compound which is substantially (bio)absorbable (resorable) after implantation in tissue and contains an oriented reinforcing structure or the like of a polymer or polymeric compound or ceramic bioactive glass compound.

Bioabsorbable surgical fastener for tissue treatment

A surgical tissue fixation system is described, including: (1) a bioabsorbable tissue fixation plate having optionally a plurality of through-holes arranged in alternating relation along the plate; (2) bioabsorbable fasteners adapted for insertion into the through-holes to secure the plate to underlying bodily tissue or bone; and (3) an installation instrument which triggers (strikes or shoots) fasteners one after one, in rapid succession, into the through-holes made through the plate and into the underlying bodily tissue or bone, which also optionally includes drillholes.

Surgical system for tissue fixation

A fixation implant generally includes at least one shaft configured to securely fit into a hole formed in bone. The shaft is of sufficient length relative to the interior diameter of the hole and, in some preferred embodiments, has locking protuberances, like threads, ridges, or barbs, that resist removal of the shaft from the hole in the bone when different types of forces, such as tensile or bending forces, are applied to the implant. The shaft is generally cylindrical in shape, however, in various embodiments, different cross-sections could be used. In a preferred embodiment the implant has a flattened and bent end portion emerging from only one side of the shaft. At the other side of the implant the outer surface of the shaft and the emerging end portion form a smooth surface, without any projections. This smooth surface at the end of the implant prevents irritation of the surrounding tissue. The end portion has a mating surface configured to grip a portion of the soft tissue surrounding the hole between the bone and the mating surface. The longitudinal axis of the shaft is oriented at an angle of less than 90 degrees relative to the mating surface. In this fashion, the implant anchors soft tissue, such as rotator cuff tissue, to bone.

A method for treating and/or preventing of cerebrovascular diseases, traumas and damages of the nervous system, which method includes local (topical) and/or systemic application of an effective amount of tetracycline and/or tetracycline derivative or a mixture of tetracycline and/or tetracycline derivative(s) (&ldquo;active agent(s)&rdquo;), optionally in a pharmaceutically-acceptable diluent, carrier or release system (&ldquo;active compostition&rdquo;).

In the present invention, a bioabsorbable implant is described, which implant is manufactured of bioabsorbable polymer, copolymer, polymer alloy or fiber reinforced and/or particle filled composite, which implant is pushed into a hole or drill canal made in a bone, for fixing a bone graft into the drillhole, wherein the implant comprises: (1) at least one elongated body, (2) at least one gripping element to lock the implant into the drillhole, and (3) a platform surface for location of a bone block between the implant and the wall of the drillhole. The implant also may be equipped with (4) an additional arresting means, which effectively prevents the slipping of the bone block out of the drillhole.

The invention relates to pliable surgical implants manufactured of bioabsorbable (or biodegradable) polymer, copolymer, polymer alloy or composite and used for fixation of a bone block (graft) into a drillhole in a bone.
