A temperature controlled fluid therapy system includes a reservoir for containing hot or cold fluid, a pump with a submersible motor disposed within the reservoir, a watertight blanket for containing the hot or cold fluid, and output and intake conduits for circulating the fluid between the reservoir and the blanket. The system includes a first temperature sensor disposed within the reservoir for measuring the temperature of the fluid in the reservoir, and a second temperature sensor disposed adjacent the blanket for measuring the temperature of the fluid in the blanket. A power supply provides power to the pump motor. A controller controls the power provided to the motor based upon the first and second temperature signals, thereby controlling the fluid flow rate through the blanket and hence the temperature of the fluid in the blanket. When the temperature of the fluid in the reservoir is within a hot temperature range, such as 90&#xb0; F. to 120&#xb0; F., the controller maintains the temperature of the fluid in the blanket within the hot temperature range. When the temperature of the fluid in the reservoir is within a cold temperature range, such as 45&#xb0; F. to 65&#xb0; F., the controller maintains the temperature of the fluid in the blanket within the cold temperature range.

A low-profile lumbo-sacral orthosis consists of flexible anterior and posterior members, both shaped to fit around the waist of a patient's torso, and a closure system on each side of the orthosis for joining the flexible anterior and posterior members. The anterior member is formed of a web of flexible material. A middle panel of loop material is attached to external surface of the anterior web in the middle to form a pocket, and two anterior side panels of loop material are attached to external surface of the anterior web at each side to form pockets. Reinforcing splints are inserted into each pocket. The flexible posterior member is formed of a web of flexible material with two posterior side panels of loop material attached to the external surface to form two pockets. Reinforcing splints are inserted into each of the pockets. A moldable posterior splint is attached to the external surface of the posterior web in the middle. Each closure system consists of a plurality of straps and buckles connected to attachment strip. The straps are connected to the anterior attachment strip, extend through the plurality of buckles on the posterior attachment strip, and terminating in a common strap.

A method for integration of the institutional supply chain for medical products utilizing a nested bill of materials on a care event level of a clinical pathway for one or more medical procedures. The medical supplies appropriate for use in a care event are expressed as a bill of materials. Each item of medical supply is assigned a unique identifier which includes at least identification of the item itself, identification of the supplier of the item, and identification of the care event with which the item is to be used. Portions of the supplies are provided by multiple vendors to a unitized container sequencing center where the supplies are bundled by care events and packed into a unitized container. This container is then shipped to a customer or distributor for further shipment to a customer.

Method for the supply of medical supplies to a health-care institution

An absorbent article in the form of a closely-woven single-layered fabric sheet which has incorporated therein an elongated radiopaque thread embedded in multiple folds along at least one edge of the sheet. The radiopaque element preferably is unattached to the fabric, but rather is mechanically captured within a first fold that is further folded inwardly of and onto the top surface of the fabric sheet. The fabric sheet is woven of absorbent yarns and in a weave pattern which produces a tight weave such that the article is suitable for use as a drape in a surgical procedure, or in the nature of a laparotomy sponge. A method for the manufacture of the absorbent article is disclosed.

A woven absorbent article, useful in medical application, including at least one yarn-like radiopaque element extending along the length dimension and fully from one end to the opposite end of the absorbent article and having its opposite ends anchored to the absorbent article by means of multiple folds at each of the ends of the absorbent article. Preferably, the radiopaque element is incorporated into the woven article in the form of a warp yarn of the weave thereof. A method for the manufacture of the article is disclosed.

An absorbent article useful in medical applications and particularly useful as a medical sponge. The article includes a multilayered absorbent web material having at least first and second side edges thereof twice-folded inwardly of the body of the article and at least an elongated radiopaque element anchored and fully covered by the marginal folds of the web material. In one embodiment, there is included a flexible loop element having its opposite ends anchored in the marginal folds of the web material and having the bight portion thereof extending unsupported from its anchoring marginal folds. A system for the delivery, storage and disposal of medical supplies including a lidded receptacle for receiving the supplies and facilitating their delivery to a use site, such lidded container subsequently being employed in the collection and ultimate disposal of waste medical supplies. The preferred receptacle includes lid means that serves to temporarily close the receptacle when unused medical supplies are held within the receptacle, and that serves the further subsequent function of lockingly closing and sealing the receptacle when waste medical supplies are contained in the receptacle.

System for the delivery, storage and disposal of medical supplies

A burn sheet comprising a plurality of layers laminated one to another and including a liquid-permeable top layer, a liquid-absorbent layer and a strength-imparting scrim layer. The scrim layer comprises an open pattern of crossing multifilamentary yarns bonded on one another at their crossings. The scrim is flattened prior to its incorporation into the burn sheet laminate so that cut ends of the scrim yarn monofilaments yield to the touch and the sheet is rendered conformable, and telegraphing of the scrim to the surface of the sheet is minimized. The sheet is suitable for use as a transfer sheet as well as for a burn sheet.

A padding is disclosed for an orthopedic support device including a resiliently deformable foamed plastic layer and a fabric layer laminated to at least one surface of the foam layer to provide an inner surface of the padding for placement against a body member. A plurality of dimples are provided in the inner surface to form air spaces adjacent the body member. Openings are provided in the dimples which extend through the thickness of the foam layer and the fabric to provide airflow between the air spaces and the outside air. In a preferred embodiment, the foam layer comprises a non-clickable ester foam, and the dimples are dimensioned and arranged so that at least a portion of the dimples merge with adjacent dimples to facilitate air movement between the air spaces of the merged dimples.
