A brake system comprising a torque limiter assembly that sets a torque limit and associated with an electromechanical actuation system. The torque limiter assembly comprises a ring gear meshed with two or more planetary gears, the ring gear comprising a first race extending circumferentially therearound. The torque limiter assembly comprises a pre-loaded member comprising a second race extending circumferentially therearound. Balls are engaged between the first and second races. The first and/or second races comprise a series of peaks and valleys, and slopes extending therebetween. Below the torque limit, the balls are engaged within the valleys causing the ring gear to remain rotationally captive and the planetary gears to orbit. At and above the torque limit, the balls slip over the peaks, causing the ring gear to rotate and the planetary gears to remain orbitally captive.

Brake system with torque limiter assembly

A brake system that includes a brake caliper comprising an inboard side and an outboard side, the inboard side of the brake caliper includes one or more brake pistons and the outboard side of the brake caliper comprises one or more brake pistons, and a brake pad comprising a first pad section and a second pad section. During a service brake apply, both of the first pad section and the second pad section are moved against a braking surface to create a clamping force. During a parking brake apply, only one of the first pad section and the second pad section is moved against the braking surface to create a clamping force. The first pad section comprises a friction material having a coefficient of friction that is different than a coefficient of friction of the second pad section.

Disc brake system

A brake system that includes a fixed brake system, a sliding brake system, and a support structure. The fixed brake system has an inboard side and an outboard side and being operable to move an inboard brake pad and/or an outboard brake pad against a brake rotor to generate a first clamping force. The sliding brake system being operable to move relative to the fixed brake system and to move the inboard brake pad and/or the outboard brake pad against the brake rotor to generate a second clamping force. The support structure providing a sliding contact between the sliding brake system and the fixed brake system during movement of the sliding brake system relative to the fixed brake while generating or releasing the second clamping force. The support structure is located in a region of the outboard side of the fixed brake system.

A rotary to linear actuator comprising: (a) a nut having a threading; (b) a spindle having an external threading and positioned at least partially within the nut; and (c) a drive shaft in communication with the nut to rotate the nut; wherein rotation of the drive shaft rotates the nut, and the threading of the nut engages the external threading of the spindle to move the spindle axially away from the drive shaft to drive a piston.

Self-lock high-efficient rotary to linear mechanism

A disc brake system that is an opposed piston brake system. The disc brake system includes a brake caliper having an inboard side and an outboard side. The inboard side of the brake caliper is configured to support more brake pistons than the outboard side of the brake caliper.

The present teachings provide a method comprising steps of: forming an integral brake caliper body and support bracket that comprises a caliper body and a support bracket; and separating the caliper body from the support bracket.

Unitary caliper body and support bracket and method of making the same

A brake system including a piston brake system and an integral parking brake system. The brake system includes a brake piston having a piston bore, and a brake pad. The parking brake system includes a rotary to linear stage mechanism located at least partially within the piston bore. During a brake apply, the brake piston and the brake pad are moved against a brake rotor to create a clamp force. During a parking brake apply, the rotary to linear stage mechanism transfers torque into a linear force to move the same brake piston and the same brake pad against the brake rotor to create a clamp force.

A brake system is disclosed, which comprises a parking brake system and an inboard brake pad. The parking brake system includes a first actuator assembly, a second actuator assembly, a motor, and a clutch. The clutch selectively communicates power from the motor to the first actuator assembly so that a first end of the inboard brake pad is moved relative to a brake rotor. The clutch selectively communicates the power from the motor to the second actuator assembly so that a second end of the inboard brake pad is moved relative to the brake rotor. The clutch selectively communicates the power from the motor to both the first actuator assembly and the second actuator assembly so that both the first and the second ends of the inboard brake pad are moved relative to the brake rotor.

Clutch for a parking brake system

A device for a brake system comprises a rotating plate including magnets having a first polarity. The rotating plate engages an output shaft of a motor. The device includes a non-rotating plate including magnets, one or more of which have the first polarity and one or more of which have a second polarity. The non-rotating plate moves axially between an engaged position and a non-engaged position. In the engaged position, the magnets in the rotating plate magnetically attract the one or more magnets in the non-rotating plate with the second polarity so that non-rotating plate moves into contact with the rotating plate. In the non-engaged position, the magnets in the rotating plate magnetically repel the one or more magnets in the non-rotating plate with the first polarity so that the non-rotating plate moves out of contact with the rotating plate and thus rotation of the rotating plate is allowed.

Magnetic clutch for a DC motor

A mounting and damping system for a compressor including a mounting lug removably coupled to at least a portion of a housing of the compressor and a damping member disposed therebetween. The mounting lug and the damping member include at least one aperture formed therein to receive a bushing therethrough, wherein an outer diameter of the bushing is substantially smaller than a diameter of the aperture formed in the mounting lug to militate against contact therebetween.
