An improved hydrocarbon conversion catalyst is obtained through removal and modification by various means, of detrimental large and/or small particle fractions. Such modified fractions may be reused in the same or similar processes. The improved catalyst is advantageous to a wide range of hydrocarbon conversion processes.

Process to improve formulations of hydrocarbon conversion catalysts through removal and modification of detrimental particles and reuse of modified fractions

Useful portions of equilibrium catalyst from a Fluid Catalytic Cracking unit are obtained by fractionating to obtain a narrow size fraction, followed by separation of the narrow size fraction using density as a fractionating criterion. Size fractionating may be performed in vibrating sieves, and the density fractionating may be performed in an air cyclone. Both beneficial and detrimental fractions can be identified; in one embodiment, large particles are removed from ECAT to improve the coking factor.

Separation of fluid catalytic cracking equilibrium catalysts to improve value and reduce waste

Gas oil components, coking process recycle, and heavier hydrocarbons are cracked or coked in the coking vessel by injecting an additive into the vapors of traditional coking processes in the coking vessel. The additive contains catalyst(s), seeding agent(s), excess reactant(s), quenching agent(s), carrier(s), or any combination thereof to modify reaction kinetics to preferentially crack or coke these components. Modifications of the catalysts in the additive improve performance for certain desired outcomes. One exemplary embodiment of the present invention uses the olefin production capabilities from newly developed catalysts to increase the production of light olefins (e.g. ethylene, propylenes, butylenes, pentenes) for alkylation process unit feed, the production of oxygenates, and petrochemical feedstocks, such as plastics manufacture. Another exemplary embodiment of the present invention is the use of the olefin production from newly developed catalysts to improve the coker naphtha quality. A third exemplary embodiment of the present invention uses the cracking characteristics of newly developed catalysts to optimize the production of light gas oils, naphtha, and gases from the coking process.

System and method of introducing an additive with a unique catalyst to a coking process

A composition for passivating metal contaminants in catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons includes a non-layered, ultra-large pore crystalline material with at least one peak at a position greater than about 18 Angstrom Units d-spacing with a relative intensity of 100, and a benzene adsorption capacity of greater than about 15 grams benzene per 100 grams anhydrous crystal at 50 torr and 25.degree. C., and a metal passivator incorporated within the crystalline material. A method for passivating contaminating metals uses the composition during catalytic cracking as an additive or as a component of the catalyst.

FCC metal traps based on ultra large pore crystalline material

Long chain alkyl substituted naphthalenes are produced by alkylating naphthalene with an olefin or other alkylating agent with at least 6, and usually 12 to 20 carbon atoms, in the presence of an alkylation catalyst comprising a zeolite having rare earth cations, and both ammonium and protonic species, associated with the exchangeable sites of the zeolite. The zeolite is usually a large pore size zeolite such as USY. The presence of rare earths and both ammonium and protonic species increases selectivity for production of long chain mono-alkyl substituted naphthalenes in preference to more highly substituted products.
