A method and apparatus for applying a ribbon-like coating structure to the outer surface of a tire bead core. A bead core (2) is coaxially placed around a support drum (6) carrying an inflatable air bag (7) disposed in a deflated condition. Clasping sectors (14) circumferentially distributed in the drum are radially moved close to the inner surface of the bead core (2) to make a central portion of a ribbon-like coating structure (3) arranged about the inflatable air bag (7), adhere against the bead core itself. The air bag is inflated so as to form, on opposite axial sides relative to the bead core (2), two lobes (17, 18) each of them being enclosed between the outer surface of the drum (6) and a respective annular opposition bell (19, 20) coaxially encircling the drum. By axially moving the opposition bells (19, 20), a first and a second side flap of the coating structure (3) are applied to respective surfaces of the bead core (2). The second flap overlaps the first flap and is fastened thereto on the radially external surface of the bead core (2).

In a vulcanization press of the B.O.M. type, a vulcanization chamber has respective end edges (5a, 5b) connected to a disc (6) movable upon command of an actuator (8) and a disc (9) which is fixed relative to said actuator. The movable disc is fastened to a grasping head (17) provided with quick release pins (20), integral with the end of a drive rod (7) operable by a lower piston (11) contained in the actuator. The fixed disc is engaged by radially retractable latches (29) to a grasping ring (28) fastened to the actuator. The raising of the movable disc is stopped due to the chamber tensioning. The disc descent is stopped by two semi-cylindrical elements (12a, 12b) movable close to the drive rod, acting in abutment on an upper piston (15) contained in the actuator.

A vulcanization press for vehicle tires having a bed with at least two molds, each mold having a lower holding mold on the bed and an upper counter-mold. A guide column upstanding from the bed has a handling arm projecting outwardly therefrom which is capable of vertical movement along the column and rotational movement about the column. The handling arm has a series of rotatably operable latches for engaging the upper counter mold cover of one mold and to move it upwardly and arcuately sideways and vertically downwardly to be positioned upon the other mold.

The described device for practicing a method of splicing the ends of a tire bead filler strip comprises two primary pliers systems (2, 2a) arranged to engage through respective gripping elements (25, 26) the opposite ends of an elastomeric filler (45) applied on the radial outer peripheral of a bead core (46). The pliers systems are pivoted around an axis spaced from the center of the bead core, with respect to the convergence point of the V-shaped opening formed by the ends of the filler and are angularly moveable upon carrying out their movement, the pliers systems rotate with respect to the other according to an angulation greater than the value of the angle from by the ends of the filler and that the gripping means (25, 26) are shaped in such a way that in a radial outer zone of the filler, the apices of the triangular shaped filler strip are overlapped during the action of the pliers systems. The described device includes a bearing element positioned to engage a bead core and subjected to the action of a friction wheel acting in such a way as to make the bead core rotate around its own axis. Two pressure discs arranged specularly with respect to the lying median plane of the bead core act on opposite sides of a filler to apply the same on the outer peripheral chafer of the bead core while this latter is rotating. The pressure discs lie according to respective planes convergent toward the bead core and divergent in the sense of rotation of the bead core to favor the release of the filler from the pressure discs. The pressure discs are thrust on the filler through a pneumatic cylinder which exerts a constant force on an oscillating support according to an axis parallel to the bead core axis and bearing the discs themselves.

To obtain and expedite an automatic engagement and disengagement of the bladder with respect to the relative operating mechanism, in particular in presses used for curing pneumatic tires, the movable clamp and the fixed clamp, respectively, which block the beads of the flexible, elastically deformable sleeve constituting the bladder, comprise annular grooves, coaxial with the axis of the bladder, which, in operation interact with the heads of a plurality of pegs situated in the head to be assembled to the movable clamp and in the body of the support to be associated to the fixed clamp, the pegs being radially movable in both senses between two positions, i.e. a work position in the operating condition and a rest position in which said pegs are completely collapsed into the body of said head and of the support so as to allow the axial insertion of the bladder on the mechanism and its removal therefrom.

For the purpose of carrying out the butt-end joining of two lengths of a rubberized fabric, particularly reinforced with cords disposed parallel at the edges to be joined, there is provided a stitching device which comprises two superimposed pairs of frusto-conical rollers, having their lateral surfaces tangent to a horizontal plane, and with opposing pairs of rollers to a vertical plane, their axes of rotation being symmetrically inclined with respect to the tern of planes comprised of a first horizontal plane, or the resting plane for the lengths to be joined, a second vertical plane that contains the seam-line of the lengths, and a third vertical plane, orthogonal to both the two above horizontal and vertical planes. Owing to the inclination of the axes, the pairs of vertically opposite rollers grasp each border of the length to be joined, on both of the surfaces, in correspondence with a narrow transverse portion of the fabric. Thereupon, they take the narrow portion of the border and press it against the facing border, shifting the narrow portion progressively and with continuity, along the entire length of the same-line.

For eliminating burrs which form on moulded, or injected products, a moulding device and, in particular, a tire-vulcanizing mould, is provided with a plastically and elastically deformable portion on the coupling surface between the corresponding elements. The coupling, between the facing surfaces, is not simultaneous, but involves a portion of surface having an amplitude that increases in its size, during the shutting movement of the mould.

There is described a tire vulcanizing press, comprising a frame provided with a lower supporting plate for allowing a mold for vulcanizing the tires to rest upon, and an upper plate that is mobile with respect to the lower plate. The mold comprises a lower cheek, an upper cheek that is mobile with respect to the lower cheek, and a series of sectors, that are mobile with respect to an annular-containing element, each of which is radially mobile with respect to the upper cheek. The mold further comprises a connecting means for fixing the lower cheek to the lower plate, and the upper cheek and the annular element to the upper mobile cheek, and which comprises a series of rotating bodies on the lower and upper plates which are actionable from the outer side of the plates with respect to the mold.
