Compositions which are storable under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to atmospheric moisture crosslink at room temperature to form elastomers comprising a diorganopolysiloxane having one Si-bonded hydroxyl group in each of its terminal units, and a cyclic silane of the formula ##STR1## where R represents a divalent hydrocarbon radical, R.sup.1 represents the same or different monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, which can be substituted by an alkoxy group, and R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or an alkyl or aminoalkyl radical in which the silicon atom of the cyclic silane is bonded to a nitrogen atom and to two monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, which can be substituted with an alkoxy group via oxygen and to a hydrocarbon radical via carbon.

Compositions which are stable when stored under anhydrous conditions, but which crosslink to form elastomers when exposed to moisture at room temperature are prepared by mixing (1) a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, with (2) a silicon compound containing at least three groups per molecule selected from amino groups which are bonded to silicon via nitrogen, oxime groups which are bonded to silicon via oxygen or mixtures thereof and (3) a product which is obtained from the reaction of (a) a silane containing as hydrolyzable groups at least two monovalent hydrocarbon radicals per molecule which are bonded to silicon via oxygen in which the monovalent hydrocarbon radicals may be interrupted by at least one ether-oxygen, or an oligomer thereof, with (b) a diorganotin diacylate, in which all the valences of the tin atom in the reaction product are saturated by SnC-bonded monovalent radicals or by oxygen atoms of the .tbd.SiOSn.tbd. group.

Flame-retardant elastomers are prepared by adding a metal hydroxide and/or a hydrate of a metal oxide and graphite to an organopolysiloxane composition which is capable of being crosslinked to form an elastomer.

The invention relates to organopolysiloxane compositions which are stable when stored under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to moisture cure to an elastomer containing (a) a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, (b) a silicon compound having 3 amino groups bonded to silicon via nitrogen and/or oxime groups bonded to silicon via oxygen per molecule and (c) a silicon compound having at least one thiol group selected from mercapto-functional silanes or siloxanes. The presence of the mercapto-functional silanes or siloxanes substantially retards the formation of skin but does not substantially extend the cure time of the organopolysiloxanes compositions. These compositions are useful in, for example, screen printing, where a long skin-over time is desired.

Room temperature curable compositions, which can be stored under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to atmospheric moisture at room temperature cure to an elastomer comprising a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, a silicon compound containing acetoxy, tert-butoxy and SiC-bonded alkyl groups and a condensation catalyst, if desired, in which at least a portion of the silicon compound containing acetoxy, tert-butoxy and SiC-bonded alkyl groups is obtained from the reaction of an alkyltriacetoxysilane and tert-butanol in aqueous acetic acid.

Compositions which are stable when stored under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to atmospheric moisture cross-link to form elastomers comprising (1) an organopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, (2) a silicon compound having at least 3 Si-bonded hydrolyzable groups per molecule and (3) from 30 to 100 percent by weight, based on the weight of the organopolysiloxane (1), of a powder obtained from the homopolymerization or copolymerization of an acrylonitrile in an aqueous medium.

Curable compositions which can be stored under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to atmospheric moisture cross-link to form elastomers, which consists of (1) a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, (2) a silicon compound containing at least three hydrolyzable groups per molecule in which the hydrolyzable groups are amino groups bonded to silicon via nitrogen and/or oxime groups bonded to silicon via oxygen and (3) at least one additional component which improves adhesion of the elastomers obtained from said compositions to substrates, in which the additional component (3) is an organosilicon compound containing at least one siloxane-oxygen atom and at least one amino group which is bonded to silicon by carbon.

Curable compositions and elastomers prepared therefrom

This invention relates to compositions which can be stored under anhydrous conditions, but when exposed to atmospheric moisture cure at room temperature to form elastomers. These compositions contain a diorganopolysiloxane having terminal condensable groups, a silicon compound having at least one nitrogen atom and at least three hydrolyzable groups per molecule, a reinforcing filler and a phosphoric acid ester. These compositions have improved stability and improved flow properties. Elastomers prepared from these compositions when compared with known compositions, have lower modulus values at 100 percent elongation.
