A heat insulating structure of ceramic material for high temperatures is made up of a plurality of reflective layers in order to provide protection against the action of heat for short periods of time. The reflective layers are made up of a substrate of impregnated, fired ceramic fiber and a noble metal layer. The heat insulating structure is made up of a plurality of such parallel spaced reflective layers.

Thermal insulating material

A method for the production of soot filters using felt-like or other bats as filter elements, which are made up of loose refractory fibers. In order to bond the fibers together and to anchor then in place, the filter element made up of the fibers is coated by CVD or precipitation from a solution to give an amorphous coating. The coating is also refractory. It bonds the fibers together at their crossovers.

A selectively absorbent layer for solar collectors, comprising a mixture of chromium oxides resulting from thermal decomposition of chromium hexacarbonyl or substituted chromium carbonyl. The absorbent layer is deposited from a process gas containing the carbonyl gaseous phase, oxygen, and inert carrier gas. An intermediate reflective layer is provided between the absorbent layer and the substrate.

Selectively absorbent layer for solar collectors, and method of making it

A method for the production of homogeneous coatings of a substance comprising at least two metals and/or metal compounds on a substrate, which method comprises depositing the substance from a gas or liquid phase from dinuclear or polynuclear mixed metal compounds via a four step process comprising heating the substance to 85-90% of a final temperature over a period of 5 to 20 minutes, reducing the temperature to a second temperature which is 2/3 of said final temperature, maintaining the second temperature for 11/2 to 21/2 hours, raising the second temperature over a period of 20 to 40 minutes, and maintaining the final temperature for 1 to 2 hours. The coated materials are, for example, useful for coating solar collectors with an .alpha. of at least 0.70 and an .epsilon. no greater than 0.30.

Method for the production of homogeneous coatings of two or more metals

A method for producing oxide surface layers on titanium-based objects. The object is pretreated mechanically and, following pretreatment, an oxidation process takes place using a low oxidation potential and a temperature between 480.degree. C. and 800.degree. C. As an oxidizing agent, use is preferably made of water vapor at a partial pressure of about 20 mbar. The water vapor may be mixed with an inert carrier gas, such as argon or helium.

Method of producing protective oxide layers

Method for the manufacturing of deformation-resistant oxide coatings on metallic workpieces, in which fissures are induced in the oxide layer formed on the surface of the workpiece as a result of severe deformations in the base material. The fissures are subsequently healed by filling the interstices with subsequently produced oxide resulting from a post-oxidation process. Repeating the process several times controls the natural stress condition of the surface layer such that the effective elastic deformation range is extended.

Method for the manufacture of deformation resistant oxidic protective

Method for manufacturing solar absorption layers by electrodeposition of heavy metals, such as Ni and Co, from aqueous citrate solutions. The heavy metal citrates are produced by direct reaction of metal oxides or carbonates with citric acid. The electrolyte concentration is a maximum 5% and has a pH of between 8 and 11. The deposition process takes place at room temperature, bath voltages of 8 to 30 V, and current densities of 3 to 10 A/dm.sup.2. The layers produced by this method are well bonded black layers resistant to temperatures up to 700.degree. C.

A black chrome electrolyte for the formation of selective layers for solar collectors electrolyte comprising chromium trioxide (CrO.sub.3), fluorosilic acid (H.sub.2 SiF.sub.6) as a catalyst and soidum molybdate (Na.sub.2 MoO.sub.4. 2H.sub.2 O). A substrate is brought into contact with the electrolyte at a current density of 0.40 to 0.60 Acm.sup.-2 and a bath temperature of less than 20.degree. C. for 15 to 30 secs.
