An electrolytic cell of a liquid disinfection device has a housing with an inlet and outlet, and electrodes arranged in transverse planes and surrounding a central supporting element through which electrical leads can be provided. The electrodes can be concentric annular electrodes supported on radial supports, or can be unitary, being punched from sheets with gaps and webs between them.

A viscosimeter of the kind wherein a capillary tube containing a fluid, the viscosity of which is to be measured, and a metal ball is supported so that the ball will gravitate from the top of the tube to the bottom and a magnet is used to periodically raise the ball in the capillary and release it. The viscosity is determined by the rate of descent of the ball in the capillary tube.

In a process for disinfecting water by anodic oxidation in a reactor the volumetric flow rate, current density and contact time are selected so that there is an excess of reaction products having oxidizing power in the water at the exit from the reactor, which gives rise to continued disinfection downstream of the reactor. The process is particularly applicable to water for swimming pools.

Date Mar. 22, 1979 Liquids with a very low conductivity are sterilized by means of anodic oxidation. For the purpose of increasing the conductivity without using chemically soluble additives, a gas which increases the conductivity, in particular CO.sub.2, is fed to the liquid before the anodic oxidation. For the purpose of carrying out the process, a device with an oxidation reactor (1) has a feed line (5), on the inlet side, for the gas to be fed in and a venting means (22) on the outlet side.

Electrolytic process for the sterilization of liquids

A disinfection device has a plurality of electrodes arranged in planes, the electrodes in the planes being conductively connected by conductive and non-conductive carrier elements at their opposite ends. The elements alternate on opposed walls of the housing and fit together by reason of projections and corresponding recesses on the conductive and non-conductive elements. The electrodes may be, in certain embodiments, of expanded metal or sintered metal.
