Plastics having coatings are reused by first removing the coatings as by shaving or treatment with solvents or jets of hot liquid or vapor that melt the coatings and blow them away. Thin plastic pieces like compact discs are passed through surface milling apparatus which shaves off the coatings. After the shaving, the discs are brushed while rotating around their centers.

Holograms are formed in moldable materials of varied shapes and curvatures utilizing injection molding and the like. Instead of the conventional metallizing, there can be sprayed on flakes of highly specular metal made by breaking up a thin coating of metal metallized by conventional metallizing on a removable support. Hologram on one surface of a molding that has a 100% mirror on an opposing surface, is suitable for cosmetic compact case covers or the like. Holograms can also be applied to digital compact audio discs or video discs.

A continuous process for preparing finely divided thin, bright metal particles which comprises applying a release coating to at least one side of a carrier sheet, depositing a metal film of from 350 to 450 angstroms thickness onto the release coating solubilizing the release coating, removing the metal film from the carrier sheet, and breaking the thin metal film into particles having a diameter of between 25 to 50 microns.

Process for making metallic leafing pigments

A vacuum chuck for use in lens grinding having a vertical bore extending downwardly into the block to join a through horizontal bore provided with a venturi, so that by blowing air through the venturi a vacuum is created in the vertical bore to secure the lens placed on top of the block.
