A cover is employed with an edge mount electrical header connector to secure the header connector to a printed circuit board during soldering. The header connector includes plural electrical contacts supported in an insulative housing. The contacts include extending solder tails for engagement with solder pads of the printed circuit board. The cover includes an elongate insulative body for attachment to the header connector. The body of the cover includes gripper arms extending therefrom and being in spaced opposition to the extending solder tails. The solder tails and the gripper arms form a space therebetween for receiving an edge of the printed circuit board. The gripper arms and solder tails retain the printed circuit board edge so as to permit secure soldering of the solder tails to the solder pads of the printed circuit board.

Cover for an edge mounted printed circuit board connector

A method and system are provided for mounting a header assembly to a mounting surface of an electrical apparatus through the use of a vacuum-suction nozzle. The header assembly includes a dielectric housing adapted to be positioned adjacent the mounting surface. The assembly includes a plurality of terminals mounted in the housing. The terminals have tail portions for interconnection to circuitry of the electrical apparatus and pin portions projecting from the housing. A slip-off cover has a plurality of pin-receiving passages for receiving free ends of the pin portions of at least some of the terminals. The pin portions are interference-fit in the passages to allow the cover and the header assembly to be mounted together to the electrical apparatus and to allow the cover to be slid off the terminals after the tail portions of the terminals are interconnected to the circuitry of the electrical apparatus. The cover has a smooth top surface area of a size sufficient for engagement by the vacuum-suction nozzle for conjoint manipulation and positioning of the header assembly and the cover.

A battery holder is disclosed which is of one piece construction and which includes a housing having a base and a pair of spaced end walls. One of the end walls is longer than the other and defines a recess therein which is configured to receive one end of the battery when the battery is inserted in the housing. A resilient terminal contact is provided at both ends of the housing and the terminal contact at the end opposite the recess is configured in a manner such that as the battery is being inserted in the housing the terminal contact is biased toward its end of the housing, and when the battery has been inserted into the housing the resilient terminal contact moves into overlying relationship with its end of the battery to hold that end of the battery against removal from the housing. In addition, terminal tails are provided on the terminal contacts which are kinked across their width to retain the connector on a circuit board prior to soldering.
