Process for the production of a thermoplastic polymer comprising segments of a diamide, the process comprising: 1) a first step of preparing a reaction mixture comprising a diamine HN&#x2014;Y&#x2014;NHForm. (I), and a diester of a dicarboxylic acid Form. (II) 2) a second step of heating the reaction mixture to a temperature at least 5&#xb0; C. above the crystallization temperature of the diester and a least 5&#xb0; C. below the melting temperature of the formed amide (formula III) in the presence of an alkaline or earth alkaline alkoxy catalyst Form. (III) wherein X and Y are the same or different and are an aliphatic group comprising 2-12 carbon atoms or an aromatic group comprising 6-20 carbon atoms, R1 and R2 are the same or different and are an aliphatic group comprising 2-15 carbon atoms and wherein R equals R1 or R2 and are the same or different. 3) optionally a third step of quenching the catalyst of the reaction mixture obtained in the second step by adding an acid to the reaction mixture and 4) a fourth step of adding further components to the reaction mixture obtained in the second step, or if the third step has been applied to the reaction mixture obtained in the third step, and so producing the thermoplastic polymer comprising the segments of the diamide.

The invention relates to a polyamide comprising units derived from: A. a diamine comprising in its structure at least one cyclohexane fragment according to Structure I, in which the substituents are in the 1,4-trans-position (Structure I), with n a positive integer of at least 1, and the proviso that when n is 2 or higher the cyclohexane rings are connected to each other through the 1,4-trans position, B. an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid with at least 13 carbon atoms and optionally comprising units derived from: C. one or more aliphatic dicarboxylic acids other than B, D. one or more diamines other than A, E. one or more monofunctional carboxylic acids or monofunctional amines, F. one or more polyfunctional monomers comprising carboxylic acid and/or amine groups, G. one or more lactams or corresponding amino acids. The invention further relates to a composition comprising such a polyamide and its uses.

This invention is in the field of polymer chemistry. More in particular it provides a method to produce polymers such as block copolymers or cross-linked networks that are suitable for medical applications. The invention also provides degradable materials that may degrade completely when used in the human or animal body, minimizing residual components that may be toxic or otherwise undesirable.

Polymers comprising thioester bonds

The invention relates the use of a copolyester elastomer comprising hard blocks comprising polyester segments, polymeric soft blocks and urethane linkages, in applications with a thermal overload requirement specifying a thermal overload temperature above the melting temperature of the copolyester elastomer. The invention also relates to films as well as tubes and electrical cables, such as convoluted tubes and electrical cables for use in cable harness systems. The invention more further relates to polymeric materials with high heat properties that can be used in the tubes and cables and to tubes and cables at least comprising a layer consisting of the polymeric materials.

Intrinsically gel-free, randomly branched polyamide

The invention relates to an acid-dyeable polyamide fiber which can be obtained very reproducibly and unsusceptibly to faults during the production process. The fiber is characterized in that the amino end group content is less than 10 meq/kg. A very reproducible affinity for dyestuffs is obtained by copolymerization of a compound containing an acidic end group and having a basic nature. Compounds derived from melamine are particularly suitable.

Acid dyeable fibre

The invention relates to a star-shaped branched polyamide that has a high thermal stability and can be produced in existing production facilities for the corresponding linear polyamide. This is achieved by allowing the polyamide branches, at least three, to be formed from a multifunctional core having functional groups chosen from the group comprising amine and carboxyl groups, the amine or carboxyl groups being bound to an acyclic compound in which branching occures, if it is branched, at a carbon atom, or via an acyclic chain to a heterocyclic compound showing point symmetry. The process for the preparation is carried out under the conditions of the preparation of the corresponding linear polyamide. It proves to be possible to obtain, after shorter polymerization times, a product with mechanical properties that are comparable with those of the linear polyamide after significantly longer polymerization times. Examples of suitable multifunctional nuclei are 2,4,6-trisaminocaproic acid-1,3,5-triazine and 4-aminomethyl-1,1-octanediamine.

Star-shaped branched polyamide

The invention relates to a polyamide fiber whose polyamide is heavily branched. The branched polyamide preferably has 3-20 branches which are joined to a core molecule which is smaller than the polyamide arms. The arms originate preferably from functional groups which are identical and are preferably carboxyl groups. The polyamide is chosen from the group of polyamides which are produced by polycondensation of .alpha.,.omega.-aminocarboxylic acids or by ring-opening polymerization of lactams. Preferably, the polyamide is nylon-6. The properties of the fiber according to the invention are at least at the same level as those of fibers obtained by spinning linear polyamide. The spinning process for the fiber according to the invention is less susceptible to faults. Inter alia, the viscosity of the polyamide no longer changes during the spinning process.

Fibers of strongly branched polyamide

The invention relates to a dendritic macromolecule with branches prepared from halogen cyanide units composed of a monohalogenated hydrocarbon compound comprising 3-50 carbon atoms and at least one cyanide group, the halogen and the cyanide group being separated from one another by at least 3 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to a process for the preparation of a dendritic macromolecule, comprising a core and at least one branch emanating from the core, characterized in that the process comprises the steps a) through c): a) substantially every functional group of the core molecule is reacted with monomeric halogen cyanide units b) substantially every incorporated cyanide group is reduced to an amine c) substantially every amine group is reacted with monomeric halogen cyanide units, steps b) and c) being conducted alternately.

Dendritic macomolecule and a process for the preparation thereof

The invention relates to a dendritic macromolecule comprising a core and branches emanating from the core wherein the branches are based on vinyl cyanide and/or fumaryl dinatrile units. The invention also relates to processes for preparing these dendritic macromolecules. The dendritic macromolecules according to the invention are not sensitive to degradation through hydrolysis reactions and are also very stable at a high temperature. The processes are very suitable for large scale production of the dendritic macromolecules without requiring purification of reaction intermediates.
