Examples are disclosed that facilitate using enhanced cell global identifier to effectively manage the handover of cellular communication services for a mobile device in an LTE network from a source, or serving, evolved Node B (eNB) to a target home evolved Node B (HeNB). The increased use of HeNBs to provide service to mobile devices creates issues for the management of tracking area identifiers associated with the eNB and HeNBs and may increase tracking area update (TAU) signaling in the cellular network. The handover of a mobile device moving from an eNB coverage area to a neighboring HeNB coverage area is managed without use of a tracking area identifier by using enhanced cell global identifiers assigned to the respective HeNB. The following provides examples for minimizing the burden on the network devices to manage the administration of TAIs and that may reduce TAU signaling in the cellular network.

Enhanced cell global identifier-based handover from an eNodeB to a home eNodeB

A location proxy server receives a network-initiated location request. The location proxy server determines the location request is a coarse location request for a mobile device. The location proxy server forwards the coarse location request for the mobile device to a location server. The location server completes a control plane function to determine the location of the mobile device and provides a location answer to the location proxy server. The location proxy server provides the location answer to the application server initiating the location request.

Processing of a coarse location request for a mobile device

In response to a location assistance request initiated by a mobile device on a private network and directed to a data access port of a location server in a public mobile communication network, a source network address is extracted from the received request. If the extracted source network address is determined to be associated with a trusted private network domain, location assistance data obtained by the location server is provided to the mobile device on the private network without requiring any proprietary messaging schemes or application-specific authentication credentials.

Trusted mode location service for mobile device access to private network based applications

Providing information as to location of a mobile station involves receiving a mobile station location request from a requesting software application at an API gateway of a wireless communications network. The API gateway provides a network-initiated request to the wireless communications network for the location of the mobile station after determining that the requesting application is authorized to receive the location of the specified mobile station. The location of the mobile station can be determined, according to either a coarse or granular location position resolution, or accuracy, based on the request of the application and/or the conditions of the wireless communication network. Information as to location of the mobile station can be produced, and provided to the requesting software application, which can be resident on the mobile station itself or at a different location/platform.

Systems and methods for providing mobile handset position to software applications

A device receives identifier, make, and model information associated with a device from a device activation system, and provides the device identifier, make, and model information to a database. The device also determines whether the device qualifies for a software update package based on the device make and model information, and provides, to the device, a notification of the software update package when the device qualifies for the software update package.

Provisioning device make and model information for firmware over-the-air (FOTA)

A device receives, from a user device, a request to use a visual voicemail (VVM) application, directs the user device to a self provisioning server based on the request, and receives, from the self provisioning server, a selected VVM subscription plan and information associated with a user of the user device. The device also provides, to a billing system, a feature code associated with the selected VVM subscription plan, receives, from one or more voicemail servers, pre-existing voicemail messages associated with the user, and provides, to the user device, the pre-existing voicemail messages.

Visual voicemail provisioning and notification

A method includes receiving from a visual voice mail (VVM) client a request to access VVM services and determining whether VVM services have been previously activated. The method further includes providing a negative response to the VVM client if it is determined that VVM services have not been activated and receiving, from the VVM client, a self-provisioning request to initialize VVM services. The method may also include configuring VVM services based on the self-provisioning request and providing, to the VVM client, an indication that VVM services have been configured. The method may additionally include providing notifications and retrieval of voice mail messages, and submitting voice mail messages from the user device.
