Catalyzed particulate filters comprise three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic material, which comprises rhodium as the only platinum group metal, that permeates walls of a particulate filter. Such catalyzed particulate filters may be located downstream of close-coupled three-way conversion (TWC) composites in an emission treatment system downstream of a gasoline direct injection engine for treatment of an exhaust stream comprising hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulates.

Monometallic rhodium-containing four-way conversion catalysts for gasoline engine emissions treatment systems

A four-way conversion catalyst for treating a gasoline engine exhaust gas has a porous wall flow filter substrate with an inlet end, outlet end, substrate axial length extending between the inlet and outlet end, and passages defined by porous internal walls of the substrate, the passages having inlet passages with an open inlet and closed outlet, and outlet passages having a closed inlet and open outlet. The internal wall pores have a three-way conversion catalytic in-wall coating with an oxygen storage compound and a platinum group metal supported on a refractory metal oxide. On at least a portion of the internal wall surface defining the interface between the internal walls and the passages, the catalyst has a porous on-wall coating from the internal wall surface to the passage. The coating has porous oxidic compound and platinum group metal content of 0 to 0.001 wt. %, of the total coating weight.

Four-way conversion catalyst having improved filter properties

A lean gasoline exhaust treatment catalyst article is provided, the article comprising a catalytic material applied on a substrate, wherein the catalytic material comprises a first composition and a second composition, wherein the first and second compositions are present in a layered or zoned configuration, the first composition comprising palladium impregnated onto a porous refractory metal oxide material and rhodium impregnated onto a porous refractory metal oxide material; and the second composition comprising platinum impregnated onto a porous refractory metal oxide material. Methods of making and using such catalyst articles and the associated compositions and systems employing such catalyst articles are also described.

Catalyst system for lean gasoline direct injection engines

Catalyzed particulate filters comprise three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic material that permeates walls of a particulate filter such that the catalyzed particulate filter has a coated porosity that is less than an uncoated porosity of the particulate filter. The coated porosity is linearly proportional to a washcoat loading of the TWC catalytic material. A coated backpressure is non-detrimental to performance of the engine. Such catalyzed particulate filters may be used in an emission treatment system downstream of a gasoline direct injection engine for treatment of an exhaust stream comprising hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulates.

Four way conversion catalysts for gasoline engine emissions treatment systems

A layered catalyst composite for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions, effective to provide lean NOtrap functionality and three-way conversion functionality is described. Layered catalyst composites can comprise catalytic material on a substrate, the catalytic material comprising at least two layers. The first layer comprising rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles, an alkaline earth metal supported on the rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles, and at least one first platinum group metal component supported on the rare earth oxide-high surface area refractory metal oxide particles. The present invention relates to a process for preparing a catalyst, at least comprising the steps of adding a protecting agent to an aqueous solution of a metal precursor to give a mixture (M1), adding a reducing agent to mixture (M1) to give a mixture (M2), adding a support material to mixture (M2) to give a mixture (M3), adjusting the pH of mixture (M3), and separating the solid and liquid phase of mixture (M3). Preparation of diesel oxidation catalyst via deposition of colloidal nanoparticles

Provided are catalyst composites whose catalytic material is effective to substantially simultaneously oxidize carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and reduce nitrogen oxides. The catalyst composites have a two-metal layer on a carrier, the two-metal layer comprising a rhodium component supported by a first support comprising a refractory metal oxide component or a first ceria-zirconia composite; a palladium component supported by a second support comprising a second ceria-zirconia composite; one or more of a promoter, stabilizer, or binder; wherein the amount of the total of the first and second ceria-zirconia composites in the two-metal layer is equal to or greater than the amount of the refractory metal oxide component. Described is a catalyzed soot filter wherein the inlet coating of the filter comprises an oxidation catalyst comprising platinum (Pt) and optionally palladium (Pd), wherein the outlet coating of the filter comprises an oxidation catalyst comprising Pd and optionally Pt, wherein the Pt concentration in the outlet coating is lower than the Pt concentration in the inlet coating and wherein the weight ratio of Pt:Pd in the outlet coating is in the range of from 0:1 to 2:1; and wherein the inlet coating and the outlet coating are present on the wall flow substrate at a coating loading ratio in the range of from 0.5 to 1.5, calculated as ratio of the loading of the inlet coating (in g/inch(g/(2.54 cm))):loading of the outlet coating (in g/inch(g/(2.54 cm))). Systems include such catalyzed soot filters, methods of diesel engine exhaust gas treatment and methods of manufacturing catalyzed soot filters are also described.

Catalyzed soot filter

Exhaust systems and components are suitable for use with gasoline engines to capture particulates and to reduce gaseous emissions, where three-way conversion (TWC) catalysts located on a particulate filters are provided. Coated particle filters having washcoat loadings in the range of 1 to 4 g/ftresult in minimal impact on back pressure while simultaneously providing TWC catalytic activity and particle trapping functionality to meet increasingly stringent regulations such as Euro 6. Sufficient to high levels of oxygen storage components (OSC) are also delivered on and/or within the filter. The filters can have a coated porosity that is substantially the same as its uncoated porosity. The TWC catalytic material can comprise a particle size distribution such that a first set of particles has a first dparticle size of 7.5 &#x3bc;m or less and a second set of particles has a second dparticle size of more than 7.5 &#x3bc;m.

Gasoline engine emissions treatment systems having particulate filters

Provided are exhaust systems and components suitable for use in conjunction with gasoline engines to treat gaseous emissions such as hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxides. Layered three-way conversion (TWC) catalysts comprise an outer layer whose rhodium is supported by an oxygen storage component, such as a ceria-zirconia composite, and the outer layer is substantially free from alumina as a support. The rhodium-containing layer can be free of all other precious metals, such as platinum and palladium. A lower palladium layer is provided where the palladium is supported by a refractory metal oxide. The lower palladium layer can be free of rhodium and platinum and can contain an oxygen storage component that is the same or different from that in the rhodium-containing layer. Methods of making and using these catalysts are also provided.

Diesel oxidation catalysts comprising a first washcoat layer including a platinum group metal impregnated on a promoted non-zeolitic support are described. Provided is a catalyst composition, in particular a diesel oxidation catalyst, for the treatment of exhaust gas emissions, such as the oxidation of unburned hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO).
