Disclosed, herein is a single pass cross flow filtration system comprising: a filtration module, comprising two or more filtration segments fluidly connected in series, each having an upstream side and a downstream side; wherein each filtration segment comprises hollow fiber filter membranes, and wherein, when in use, the desired permeate flux is controlled by a configuration comprising: each filtration segment having a selected length; the hollow fiber filter membranes of each filtration segment, having a selected lumen diameter, wherein the selected inner diameter of each filtration segment may be the same or different, provided that at least one selected lumen diameter differs from another selected lumen diameter, and provided that the two or more filtration segments are arranged such that for a given filtration segment, having a selected lumen diameter, no filtration segment on the upstream side of the given filtration segment has a selected lumen diameter that is larger; and one or more pumps, mounted in the permeate channel.

Single pass cross flow filtration module and method

Disclosed herein is a perfusion filtration module or bioreactor for filtering a fluid, wherein the filtration module or bioreactor has a plurality of hollow fiber filter membranes that are splayed to reduce fouling of the filtration array.

Perfusion filtration system

Disclosed herein is a single pass cross flow diafiltration system comprising: a filtration module having; two or more filtration segments fluidly connected in series, each having an upstream side and a downstream side; wherein each filtration segment comprises hollow fiber filter membranes, and wherein each filtration segment has a selected length; wherein the hollow fiber filter membranes of each filtration segment have a selected inner diameter; wherein the selected inner diameter of each filtration segment may be the same or different, provided that at least one selected inner diameter differs from another selected inner diameter, and provided that the two or more filtration segments are arranged such that no selected inner diameter in a given filtration segment is larger on the upstream side; one or more pumps, mounted to urge fluid flow; and one or more points of introduction of a diadiluent, each of said points of introduction being fluidly connected to an upstream filtration segment.

Single pass cross flow diafiltration module and method

A filtration housing is disclosed. The housing includes: a first plate and a second plate, where the first plate and the second plate are configured to retain a filtration cassette; the second end plate includes a feed channel that communicates with an inlet port, where the inlet port is connected to a source of fluid; the first plate includes a retenate channel that extends into an outlet port; the second plate includes a first filtrate channel and a second filtrate channel, where the first filtrate channel includes a first longitudinal portion that is parallel to the feed channel and a transverse portion that communicates with a first filtrate passage; the second filtrate channel includes a second longitudinal portion that is parallel to the retenate channel and a second transverse portion that communicates with a second filtrate passage; and the first and second transverse filtrate channel portions are configured to form acute angles with an upper surface of the first end plate, where the source of fluid is configured to flow out of an outlet port of the first end plate.

Tangential filtration housing

An improved electrochemical polymer electrolyte membrane cell stack is provided that includes one or more individual fuel cell cassettes, each fuel cell cassette having at least one membrane electrode assembly, fuel flow field and oxidant flow field. Within each fuel cell cassette, each membrane electrode assembly has at least one manifold opening for the passage of reactant manifolds through the cassette, all of which are bonded about the perimeter by a sealant, and each flow field has at least one manifold opening and any manifold openings on the flow fields which do not correspond to a manifold providing reactant for distribution to such flow field is bonded about its perimeter by a sealant. Each fuel cell cassette may also contain other typical components of a electrochemical polymer electrolyte membrane cell stack, such as separator plates or coolant flow fields, which also have manifold openings which may or may not be bonded about the perimeter. The membrane electrode assembly, flow fields, and other components are encapsulated along the peripheral edges by a resin such that the entire periphery of the fuel cell cassette is encapsulated by the resin.

Electrochemical polymer electrolyte membrane cell stacks and manufacturing methods thereof

Porous hollow polymer fiber membranes having convoluted inside and/or outside surfaces, as well as filter devices comprising a plurality of the hollow fiber membranes, the devices preferably being arranged to direct fluid flow from the inside surface of the membranes to the outside surface, methods of making the membranes, and methods of using the filter devices, are disclosed.

Convoluted surface hollow fiber membranes

A filtration apparatus for separating filtrate and concentrate from a liquid solution is disclosed. The filtration apparatus contains a housing having a discharge opening therein and being capable of containing a liquid solution to be filtered therein. A filter unit is insertable within the housing such that a first side faces the discharge opening of the housing. The filter unit contains a semipermeable membrane located thereon and capable of separating filtrate and concentrate. At least one inlet is located within the first side so that the semipermeable membrane covers the inlets.

Filtration apparatus with membrane filter unit

A hollow fiber ultrafiltration filter cartridge is modified to include a central perforated exit tube which receives filtered fluid passing through the fiber walls to optionally exit from the tube at the same end thereof which receives feed fluid passing into the hollow fibers in the cartridge.
