A High Intensity Discharge lamp and method of making same having an arc tube defining a discharge chamber with opposite ends of the tube each receiving an electrode extending into the discharge chamber and define an axial gap therebetween. A thermal shield extends from each opposite end of the arc tube and defines a radial gap with the tube. The thermal shields in some embodiments extend from end plugs in the arc tube; and, in another embodiment use formed, integrally with one arc tube sections and the tube sections joined.

Ceramic arc tube for a discharge lamp and method of making same

A discharge vessel for high intensity discharge lamps is disclosed. The discharge vessel comprises an elongated arc chamber having a longitudinal axis of rotational symmetry. It has a translucent wall made of fused silica glass, or alternatively ceramic material. A pair of electrodes is located at opposite ends of the arc chamber for providing discharge arc. The wall of the arc chamber has at least one inwardly protruding circumferential narrowed portion thereby the arc chamber is divided into convection cells.

A light-source assembly includes a low-pressure fluorescent discharge tube arrangement having a cold spot temperature and radiating white light and at least one light-emitting diode radiating red light. An operating circuit supplies current to the discharge tube arrangement and the light-emitting diode. An outer envelope surrounds at least the discharge tube arrangement and provides a substantially homogenous light resulting from a mixture of the light radiated by the discharge tube arrangement and the light radiated by the light-emitting diode. A base mechanically and electrically connects at least the discharge tube arrangement in the outer envelope to a lamp-holder.

Thermal management of LEDS integrated to compact fluorescent lamps

A dielectric barrier discharge lamp comprises a discharge vessel that has a principal axis, the discharge vessel encloses a discharge volume filled with a discharge gas. The discharge vessel further comprises end portions intersected by the principal axis. There are at least one electrode of a first type and at least one electrode of a second type in the lamp. The electrodes of one type are energized to act as a cathode and the electrodes of other type are energized to act as an anode. The electrodes are substantially straight, elongated and have a longitudinal axis substantially parallel to the principal axis of the discharge vessel. These electrodes are positioned within the discharge volume. The electrodes of at least one type are isolated from the discharge volume by a dielectric layer. A dielectric barrier discharge lamp is also disclosed, in which the electrodes are arranged within the discharge volume in groups, and each of the groups comprises one electrode of the first type and at least one electrode of the second type.
