An electrical component including a substrate having opposite first and second sides and a plurality of vias extending into the substrate from the first side. The substrate has first conductive pads on the first side that are electrically connected to corresponding vias. The electrical component also includes a plurality of electrical contacts that are mounted to the substrate along the first side. Each of the electrical contacts includes a contact heel and a contact beam that extends from the corresponding contact heel and at least partially away from the first side. The contact heels are laser-welded to corresponding first conductive pads.

Electrical component having an array of electrical contacts

An electrical terminal of the type to be inserted into an aperture of an electrical panel member is provided. The electrical terminal includes a base and an insertion portion extending from the base to a first end. A slit formed through the insertion portion and extending from or between the base and between the first end defines a compliant portion having a first leg and a second leg. A substantially central axis extends between opposite ends of the slit so that a segment of the first leg is deformed in one direction away from the axis, while a segment of the second leg is deformed in a direction away from the axis opposite the first leg. The deformed first leg segment and the deformed second leg segment are offset from the center of the slit.

Electrical terminal having a compliant retention section

A land grid array interconnect has a substrate that has a first surface and a second surface. The substrate has a plurality of vias extending therethrough. The substrate has first pads on the first surface electrically connected to corresponding vias and has second pads on the second surface electrically connected to corresponding vias and corresponding first pads. A contact array is coupled to the first surface of the substrate. The contact array has a metal plate that defines a carrier and a plurality of contacts formed from the metal plate and held by the carrier. The contacts have contact heels and beams extending from corresponding contact heels. The contact heels are soldered to corresponding first pads. The contacts are singulated from the carrier after the contact heels are soldered to the first pads. The carrier is removed from the substrate after the contacts are singulated leaving the individual contacts soldered to corresponding first pads.

Land grid array interconnect

A connector assembly having a connector body that includes a support structure and a mating side and has an adjustable cavity therebetween. The mating side has a mating array of terminals thereon that is configured to face a communication component. The mating side is moveable relative to the support structure. The connector assembly also includes an elastic container having a reservoir that holds a working fluid. The elastic container is positioned within the adjustable cavity between the support structure and the mating side. The elastic container changes between first and second shapes to move the mating side toward and away from the communication component.

Connector assemblies having mating sides moved by fluidic coupling mechanisms

A connector assembly includes a housing, a mating array, and a self-alignment subassembly. The housing is joined to a first circuit board and includes a header portion that moves in a mating direction toward a second circuit board. The mating array is joined to the header portion and includes a terminal. The mating array is moveable in the mating direction to couple the terminal with a mating terminal of the second circuit board. The self-alignment subassembly is disposed between the header portion and the mating array. The self-alignment subassembly applies a floating force on the mating array that permits alignment of the terminal of the mating array with the mating terminal while the mating array is moved in directions oriented approximately perpendicular to the mating direction. The self-alignment subassembly also applies a loading force on the mating array in the mating direction that couples the terminal of the mating array with the mating terminal.

Connector assembly having a floating mating array

An electrical connector assembly includes a connector having a connector housing and contacts held by the connector housing, where the contacts defining a separable mating interface for mating with a mating component. An actuator engages the contacts and is movable between an actuated position and an unactuated position. The contacts are deflected relative to the connector housing when the actuator is moved to the actuated position. An actuation device is configured to move the actuator between the actuated position and the unactuated position.

Electrical connector assembly having a separable mating interface

An interconnect member is provided for electrically connecting an electronic module to a printed circuit. The interconnect member includes a substrate having a module side and an opposite circuit side. Module contacts are held by the substrate. The module contacts are arranged within an array along the module side of the substrate. The module contacts include module mating interfaces that are configured to be electrically connected to the electronic module. Circuit contacts are held by the substrate. The circuit contacts are arranged within an array along the circuit side of the substrate. The circuit contacts include circuit mating interfaces that are configured to be electrically connected to the printed circuit. Electrical components extend between and electrically connect corresponding module contacts to corresponding circuit contacts to provide electrical paths for electrical signals transmitted between the module and circuit contacts. At least one of the electrical components modifies the corresponding electrical signal transmitted along the electrical path between the corresponding module and circuit contacts.

Interconnect member for an electronic module with embedded components

An electrical connector assembly includes a circuit board and an electrical connector mounted on the circuit board. The circuit board has a circuit board body having first and second surfaces and through-holes bored between the first and second surfaces. The circuit board has signal traces on internal layers of the circuit board that are generally parallel to the first and second surfaces. Portions of the circuit board body within the through-holes are etched away to expose portions of the signal traces beyond the circuit board body within the corresponding through-hole. The electrical connector includes a housing and signal terminals held by the housing. The signal terminals are received in respective through-holes of the circuit board and engage the corresponding signal traces.

Electrical connector assembly

A connector assembly includes a housing, a connector interface, and an actuator. The housing extends from a front end to a back end and includes an elongated channel extending through the housing along an actuation axis disposed between the front and back ends. The connector interface is joined with the front end of the housing and is configured to be electrically joined with a circuit board when the connector interface is moved away from the front end and mates with the circuit board. The actuator is disposed within the channel of the housing and includes a ramp angled toward the front end of the housing. The connector interface mates with the circuit board by moving the actuator along the actuation axis to engage the ramp with the connector interface and move the connector interface toward the circuit board.

Linearly actuated connector mating interface

A connector configured to communicatively couple different components. The connector includes a base frame that extends along a longitudinal axis between a pair of frame ends and first and second moveable mating arrays having mating surfaces with terminals arranged thereon. The connector also includes a coupling mechanism that is supported by the base frame. The coupling mechanism holds the first and second mating arrays so that the mating surfaces of the first and second mating arrays extend along the longitudinal axis. The coupling mechanism moves the first and second mating arrays along different mating directions with respect to select components. The coupling mechanism moves the first and second mating arrays between retracted and engaged positions, wherein the corresponding mating array is spaced apart from the select component in the retracted position and engaged to the select component in the engaged position.

Connectors and assemblies having a plurality of moveable mating arrays

An electrical terminal of the type to be inserted into an aperture of an electrical panel member is provided. The electrical terminal may include a base, an insertion portion extending from the base to a first end, a slit formed through the insertion portion and defining a compliant portion having a first leg and a second leg. A segment of the first leg may be deformed in one direction, while a segment of the second leg may deformed in the opposite direction. Midpoints of each or both legs may be offset from the midpoint of the slit to achieve improved mechanical and electrical performance within a connector. Also provided is an electrical terminal having a tip that facilitates alignment with a panel member aperture and provides tactile feedback to a user, as well as an electrical terminal having a mounting end that is substantially smaller than its mating end, and connectors containing such terminals. Methods of routing electrical traces between adjacent electrical terminals are also provided.

Electrical connector having improved density and routing characteristics and related methods

A connector assembly includes a contact module with a lead frame having signal conductors defining separate conductive paths. The contact module also includes a compensation circuit component coupled to the leadframe. The compensation circuit component has a substrate and multiple compensation circuit elements mounted to the substrate, where the substrate is coupled to the leadframe such that the compensation circuit elements are electrically connected to corresponding signal conductors. The contact module also includes a body encasing the signal conductors and the compensation circuit component.

Connector assembly having a compensation circuit component

A contact assembly includes a bifurcated contact and a mating contact. The bifurcated contact is elongated along a longitudinal axis with contact tips protruding from a common end of the bifurcated contact. The mating contact has an outer end and a body elongated along a major axis. The body includes a mating surface along a front face of the body. The outer end includes angled lead-in ramps that form transitions from the outer end to the mating surface. The lead-in ramps extend away from one another toward opposite sides of the mating contact. The bifurcated contact and the mating contact engage one another such that the contact tips of the bifurcated contact are directed along corresponding different lead-in ramps of the mating contact.

Self-aligning contact assembly

An electrical connector assembly for electrically coupling primary and secondary circuit boards together. The secondary circuit board is held proximate to the primary circuit board and has a first contact array of board contacts thereon. The electrical connector assembly includes a circuit assembly having a second contact array of mating contacts configured to mate with the first contact array and a flexible circuit that electrically couples the second contact array to the primary circuit board. The electrical connector assembly also includes an alignment feature that is configured to engage the secondary circuit board. Also, the electrical connector assembly includes a coupling mechanism that is configured to move the alignment feature and the second contact array between a retracted position, in which the second contact array is located remotely from the first contact array, and an engaged position, in which the first and second contact arrays engage one another.
