This invention provides a computing system in which multiple remote copy destination sites exist and, even if a failure occurs in a copy source volume in a remote copy source site, it becomes possible in at least one remote copy destination site to establish backup in which data must be determined at a certain point in time. The computing system of this invention is characterized by, before the in-storage copy function performing in storage copy in the remote copy source site, setting the pair status of the remote copy destination volume in at least one storage system in multiple remote copy destination storage systems and the remote copy source volume to the mode for terminating remote copy and, after the in-storage copy is completed, changing the above-mentioned pair status to the mode for starting remote copy.

Computing system and backup method using the same

One embodiment provides a computer system and data backup method which enable improvements in the response performance of a storage apparatus to a write request from a host apparatus. In a case where, during execution of same intra-enclosure copy processing, a primary storage apparatus receives a write request in which the data write destination is a storage area in a target range for the same intra-enclosure copy processing in a first primary volume in the primary storage apparatus, the primary storage apparatus transmits an advance notification storing an address of a storage area in a secondary storage apparatus which corresponds to the data write destination storage area designated in the write request to the secondary storage apparatus such that an on-demand copy is executed based on the advance notification in the secondary storage apparatus.

Computer system and data backup method combining flashcopy and remote copy

This storage controller includes a port unit and multiple processing units for inputting and outputting data to and from a storage apparatus. The port unit sorts the data I/O requests given from a host system to the corresponding processing units according to a table pre-defining the storage apparatus or a storage area in the storage apparatus to perform data I/O processing allocated to each of the processing units. The processing unit inputs data in the corresponding storage apparatus or the corresponding storage area according to the data I/O request sorted to itself from the port unit and, upon detecting a blockage of the other processing unit due to a failure, updates the table retained in each of the port units so as to sort the storage apparatuses or the storage areas allocated to the other processing unit to the remaining unblocked processing units.

Storage controller and storage control method

There is a cache memory, which has a cache area allocated to each communication port of an external storage subsystem. When data conforming to an I/O command received from a host is in an external LDEV, and when there is no cache hit in this cache area, an I/O command is issued to this external storage subsystem, and then the result of I/O processing is sent to the host. A storage control system measures response time by issuing a dummy I/O command to each communication port. The larger cache capacity is allocated to a communication port with the larger measured value. As a result of this, there is an increased probability of a cache hit in a cache area corresponding to a communication port with a higher response time measured value.
