A modified pigment according to the present invention is obtained by laking a dye containing at least one of an acidic group and a basic group with at least one of an amino acid and protein.

A nitrogen-containing thermoelectric material, which has an element composition represented by:AlGaInMRON&#x2003;&#x2003;(A)orAlGaInMRDN&#x2003;&#x2003;(B)(wherein M represents a transition element; R represents a rare earth element; D represents at least one element selected from elements of the Group IV or II; 0&#x2266;z&#x2266;0.7, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.7, 0.2&#x2266;x&#x2266;1.0, 0&#x2266;u&#x2266;0.7, 0&#x2266;v&#x2266;0.05, 0.9&#x2266;s+t&#x2266;1.7, 0.4&#x2266;s&#x2266;1.2, 0&#x2266;w&#x2266;0.2 and 0.9&#x2266;m&#x2266;1.1; and x+y+z=1), and has an absolute value of a Seebeck coefficient of 40 &#x3bc;V/K or more at a temperature of 100&#xb0; C. or more. These thermoelectric materials comprise elements having low toxicity, are excellent in a heat resistance, a chemical resistance and the like, and have a high thermoelectric transforming efficiency.

Localized temperature increases inside integrated circuits due to heating at operation are prevented or controlled by electronic devices or wirings with CPP (current-perpendicular-to-plane) structures which have a current cooling effect. A CPP structure refers to a structure comprising a columnar electrically conductive portion and an insulator portion surrounding the conductive portion. The columnar portion is formed from a multilayered structure in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the layers, so as to allow a current to flow from an upper layer to a lower layer (or vice versa). The cooling effect is induced by current at the interface (or a plural of interfaces) of appropriately selected different kinds of materials (which are conductive substances in general, such as metals, semiconductors, and alloys thereof) in the columnar portion due to the Peltier effect when a current flows through the column. Temperature in a minute range is detected by a thermocouple with the CPP structure. The thermocouple has two interfaces of different materials with a proper combination. When a temperature difference exists between the two interfaces, a voltage which corresponds to a product of the temperature difference and the Peltier coefficient at the interface is produced. In the same manner, the intensity of the infrared can be also measured.

Provided are a laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry sample plate for a soft LDI-MS measurement, in which when a laser beam is irradiated, a correct measurement of high sensitivity can be made without generation of any disturbance peak and uniform coating of a sample can be made on a sample plate in fabrication of the sample, and a measurement apparatus using the sample plate. A specified ionization element having a dot structure is used as an ionization medium which is used in laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry and absorbs a laser beam.
