A hybrid vehicle has an engine (E) that is capable of changing a combustion mode between a stoichiometric combustion mode and a lean combustion mode and a motor/generator (MG) that is capable of performing torque assist by a power running operation and torque absorption by a regenerative operation. As a boundary between a stoichiometric combustion operating region and a lean combustion operating region, a second boundary (L) at a torque decrease has a hysteresis at a low torque side with respect to a first boundary (L) at a torque increase. Upon shift from the stoichiometric combustion operating region to the lean combustion operating region, for delay in increase of an intake-air quantity, decrease in fuel and the torque assist by the motor/generator (MG) are carried out, and an exhaust air-fuel ratio is changed stepwise.

Method and device for controlling hybrid vehicle

An internal combustion engine () comprises a fuel injection valve () which supplies a first fuel having a higher self-ignitability than gasoline and a second fuel having a higher combustion speed than gasoline such that an air-fuel mixture containing the first fuel and the second fuel is formed in a combustion chamber (), a spark plug () which ignites the air-fuel mixture, and a programmable controller () programmed to control supply proportions of the first fuel and the second fuel such that the ignited air-fuel mixture undergoes flame propagation combustion and then undergoes self-ignition combustion. Thus, a reduction in emissions can be achieved, and high thermal efficiency can be realized through the self-ignition combustion.

Internal combustion engine

A cylinder direct injection type internal combustion engine, including a fuel injection device configured to directly inject a first octane-value fuel and a second octane-value fuel into a combustion chamber. The second octane-value fuel has an octane value larger than an octane value of the first octane-value fuel. A controller is programmed to perform a first operation mode. In the first operation mode, the first octane-value fuel is injected from the fuel injection device, and the second octane-value fuel is injected from the fuel injection device toward an ignition flame formed by self-ignition combustion of the first octane-value fuel, so as to cause flame propagation and combustion of the second octane-value fuel.

Cylinder direct injection type internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine system, including a primary fuel tank that stores a fuel, a fuel reformer that reforms the fuel from the primary fuel tank, a secondary fuel tank that stores the fuel reformed by the fuel reformer, a fuel injection device that injects the fuel that is selectably supplied from either the primary fuel tank or secondary fuel tank into a combustion chamber, a sensor that detects the quantity of fuel remaining in the secondary fuel tank, and a control device that sets and outputs a load and revolution speed of the engine. The control device is configured to set the engine load and engine revolution speed according to a request output determined based upon an operation performed by an operator. The engine load and engine revolution speed when the quantity of fuel remaining in the secondary fuel tank is more than a predetermined value, are set different than when the quantity of fuel remaining in the secondary fuel tank is less than the predetermined value.

Control device for internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine comprises a main combustion chamber part, an auxiliary combustion chamber part, a first communicating passage, a second communicating passage and an igniting component. The auxiliary combustion chamber part includes first and second auxiliary combustion chambers. The first auxiliary combustion chamber is disposed adjacent to the main combustion chamber part. The second auxiliary combustion chamber is disposed adjacent to the first auxiliary combustion chamber at a position further away from the main combustion chamber part. The first communicating passage extends between the main combustion chamber part and the first auxiliary combustion chamber and the second communicating passage extends between the first auxiliary combustion chamber and the second auxiliary combustion chamber. The ignition component is configured and arranged to ignite fresh air-fuel mixture introduced from the main combustion chamber into the first auxiliary combustion chamber through the first communicating passage.

Internal combustion engine with auxiliary combustion chamber

A control unit is used for controlling a direct fuel injection type internal combustion engine. The control unit controls a fuel injection valve to have a first fuel injection mode wherein a penetration force of an injected fuel sharply increases at an initial stage of a fuel injection and thereafter an increasing rate of the penetration force gradually lowers with passage of time and a second fuel injection mode wherein the penetration force of the injected fuel sharply increases at a middle stage of the fuel injection. The control unit further controls the fuel injection valve in a manner to switch the first and second fuel injection modes in accordance with an operation condition of the engine.

Direct fuel injection type internal combustion engine

A control apparatus is configured for a hybrid vehicle that can operate highly efficiently in all operating regions. The hybrid vehicle utilizes an internal combustion engine that can be operating using either compression self-ignition combustion or spark ignition combustion. An electronic control unit has a combustion pattern determining section that determines (selects) the combustion method with which to run the internal combustion engine based on the output required by the vehicle. As a result, the internal combustion engine can be operated using the combustion method that is appropriate in view of the required output and unnecessary engine output can be prevented. Thus, a hybrid system that can be operated with high efficiency and at high output in all operating regions can be achieved.

Control apparatus for hybrid vehicle

An engine control unit controls a self-ignition gasoline engine which is capable of changing a combustion condition of the engine between a self-ignition combustion and a spark-ignition combustion according to an engine operating condition. The control unit executes detecting an combustion condition in the engine, detecting a self-ignition limit of a region for executing the self-ignition combustion on the basis of the combustion condition, and varying a combustion parameter for the combustion during the self-ignition combustion so that the combustion condition approaches the self-ignition combustion limit and a self-ignition combustion operation is executed under a condition maintaining the self-ignition limit.

Control system for self-ignition type gasoline engine

A gasoline engine has an actuating system including an in-cylinder fuel injection system and an ignition system, capable of changing over combustion between spark ignition combustion and compression autoignition combustion, and a controlling system for controlling the combustion changeover. In a transition from one combustion to the other, the actuating system is controlled to perform transient combustion such as stratified charge combustion with fuel injection on the compression stroke, or combustion with fuel injection during a valve shutoff period during which intake and exhaust valves are both closed.
