Before an active program replacement is carried out, a storage controller confirms a communication state between a redundant storage controller having a redundant configuration with the storage controller and the second storage device, and prohibits, in a case where an abnormality is detected in the communication state between the redundant storage controller and the second storage device, the active program replacement of the first storage controller. A first storage apparatus has first and second storage control apparatuses. The first storage control apparatus includes a first port used to transmit a command for a data input/output. The second storage control apparatus has a second port used to transmit the command. The second storage apparatus has a plurality of third ports that form a plurality of communication paths with the first and second ports. The second storage apparatus executes inputs and outputs of data based on commands received from the first storage control apparatus. Based on the processing state of the inputs and outputs via a first communication path currently being used to transmit commands to the second storage apparatus, the first storage control apparatus switches the port to be used to transmit a next command to the second storage apparatus to a port belonging to a second communication path.

A monitoring server includes a transmission and reception unit that receives information from a first storage device and a second storage device by performing polling to the first storage device and the second storage device at a certain interval, and transmits the received information to the first storage device and the second storage device at next polling. The first storage device and the second storage device includes a failover processing unit that inactivates a communication port when the failover processing unit determines that abnormality has occurred in a communication path between the first storage device and the second storage device and determines, based on the polling from the monitoring server, that abnormality has occurred in a communication path between the storage device and the monitoring server.
