A fluid coupling includes a casing supported by a drive shaft, a cover fixed to the casing to form a chamber, a partition plate fixed to the cover to partition the chamber into a reservoir and an operation chamber, a rotor disposed in the operation chamber, a valve plate operated to open or close a passage provided in the partition plate, a stud supported by the cover and fixed to the valve plate and a bimetal spring fixed to the stud on an inner end and to the cover on an outer end thereof. A damper is disposed between the cover and the bimetal spring and includes a rubber block and a bracket fixed to a part of the cover. The damper prevents the vibration and breakage of the bimetal spring.

A fluid coupling for an engine cooling system includes a driving member rotationably coupled to a driven member by a viscous fluid coupling. The viscous fluid coupling is controlled to vary the torque transfer from the driving member to the driven member as a function of a sensed engine liquid coolant temperature.

A water pump apparatus has an impeller mounted on a driven rotational shaft rotatably supported by mutually spaced bearing portions in a body member. In order to lubricate the sliding bearing surfaces between the bearing portions and the rotational shaft, oil seals surrounding the rotational shaft define first and second oil tanks, while a third oil tank is defined between the bearing portions. Spiral oil circulating grooves pump oil from the first and second tanks along the sliding bearing surface to the third tank in order to lubricate the sliding bearing surfaces. Oil passages in the bearing portions permit oil to be returned to the first and second tanks. An annular flange fitted on the rotational shaft fits between the bearing portions to provide axial bearing support for the rotational shaft. Excess oil pressure arising due to heat build up is relieved by a check valve mounted in the body member.

A water pump apparatus in an integral combustion engine of a water cooling type having a driving pulley fixed to one end of a crankshaft, and a driven pulley fixed to one end of a valve camshaft for driving the movable valve camshaft from the crankshaft via a timing belt has a water pump eccentrically providing a pump shaft axis relative to the valve camshaft axis, a pair of drive and driven gears provided with a suitable rotational ratio and respectively mounted on an end of the valve camshaft and one end of the pump shaft and engaged with each other, and a sliding bearing supporting the pump shaft and being inserted in a cylinder head.

A mounting structure for a clutch booster assembly to be arranged adjacent to and in front of a vacuum brake booster assembly fixed to a forward fire-wall structure of a vehicle body. A bracket member of a U-shaped cross-section fixed to the fire-wall structure opens toward one side of the brake booster assembly and supports the clutch booster assembly on its front end. A flexible tubular cover member has a front end secured to the front end of the bracket member to hermetically enclose a rear air suction opening of the clutch booster assembly and a rear end coupled within an opening of the fire-wall structure, and a flexible tubular sealing boot has a front end secured to the rear end of the cover member and a rear end secured to an operation rod of the clutch booster assembly. The sealing boot is provided with an annular lip in engagement with the front face of the fire-wall structure and at its rear end with a vent hole.

Brake power multiplying devices for automobile brake systems include a housing having a pressure responsive flexible diaphragm for dividing the inside chamber of the housing into a suction pressure chamber and a counter-pressure chamber. A piston made of a plastic material is attached to the diaphragm and houses an air valve and a control valve which are adapted to be actuated by a push rod operated by a driver of the automobile through a brake pedal or like operating member. A key member made of a metallic material is provided for holding the air valve on the piston. The key member includes a pair of outer holding arms having tip ends attached with rubber members so that it does not damage the plastic piston.

A fluid pressure servomotor for automotive vehicle brakes embodying a housing provided by assembling two shells, a pressure responsive power wall in the housing, a valve mechanism associated with the power wall and being movable relative thereto to control the differential pressure across the power wall, an actuating member connecting the pedal for manually moving the valve mechanism, and an output member for connecting the power wall to a brake master piston. The shells are assembled by being locked together and can be disassembled and reassembled due to the provision of a mechanism for resiliently restoring a yieldable portion in a locking structure so that the shells are reassembled by a uniting axial movement and a subsequent rotative movement to lock the shells with each other in position against such resiliency.

A brake booster for automotive vehicles in which a seal is employed for assuring hermetic connection between an output rod and a housing having a cup-shaped portion. The seal includes an annular sealing member through which the output rod is passed slidably and hermetically and a retainer for positively supporting the sealing member. The retainer is provided with a plurality of hooks to engage the cup-shaped portion so that the annular sealing member will be brought at a bead portion thereof to hermetic abutment against the housing.

Brake booster

An improved method of manufacturing a vacuum booster housing for use in a brake system of an automotive vehicle where the brake master cylinder is secured to an annular wall portion of the body of the booster housing by means of bolts passing through holes in the annular wall portion. The method comprises forming annular projections on the seating faces of the heads of the bolts coaxial with the bolt shafts and on the inside surfaces of the annular wall portion coaxial with the holes, disposing a reinforcing plate between and in contact with the annular projections, and simultaneously projection welding the reinforcing plate to the inside surface of the annular wall portion and the seating face of the bolt head to the reinforcing plate.

Method of manufacturing a vacuum booster housing

Axially extending guide arms cooperate with the interior surfaces of an annular poppet member in the control valve of a brake booster for centering a resilient poppet member face against a succession of valve seats. The guide arms can be a tube contacting the inner annular poppet surfaces and slidingly engaging the inner periphery of the annular retainer that secures the poppet member to the valve housing. The tube can also be fixed to a plate backing the sealing face. Or, the guide arm can be a tubular extension of the retainer for slidingly engaging the poppet inner annular surfaces.

Control valve for brake booster

A pneumatically operated brake booster in association with the hydraulic master brake cylinder of motor vehicles comprises a housing, an annular diaphragm having its outer periphery sealingly attached to the housing and its inner periphery sealingly attached to an axially movable power piston, a valve mechanism mounted in the power piston and operated by a manually operable push rod, which includes an air valve, and a key inserted into a radial slot of the power piston to thereby engage the air valve. The diaphragm is provided at the rear wall surface thereof adjacent to the housing with a plurality of radial projections abutting the housing. The circumferential space between neighboring radial projections is made smaller than the width of the key thereby holding the key in position and preventing the radial withdrawl thereof from the power piston.

A reaction structure of a brake booster comprises a deformable reaction disc with a peripheral edge rounded at a radius off corresonding to the radius of the rounded edge of a larger bore receiving the reaction disc. On a brake operation, the reaction disc is coaxially compressed between a second valve element interposed with a clearance thereto and connected to an input pushing rod and a power output rod, thereby resulting in a definite jumping value without indefinite delay of output power rise.

A brake booster mechanism comprising a casing, one or more pressure responsive power walls in the casing, valve mechanism associated with the power wall and being movable relative thereto to control the differential pressure across the power wall, an actuating member connecting the pedal for manually moving the valve mechanism, an output member for connecting the power wall to a brake master piston, a brake feel reaction member having a compressive member interposed between the actuating member and the output member with a play clearance with respect to the actuating member in the retracted position of the booster mechanism, and adjusting thread member for regulating the play clearance whereby during initial stage movement of the actuating member is opposed by no brake reaction force through the compressive member until the actuating member becomes in abutment against the compressive member past the clearance.

A tandem diaphragm brake booster includes first and second diaphragms disposed in a housing and a pair of diaphragm pistons which are axially movable for assisting braking efforts through manual operation. The two diaphragm pistons are connected to each other by a key member which also serves to prevent an air valve from accidentally returning.

Tandem diaphragm brake booster

A sealed type fluid reservoir in which a valve member is incorporated in a main cap which is coupled with an upper end of a casing. The pressure in the interior of the casing is maintained at atmospheric level by the valve member despite pressure variation in the interior of the casing.
