A laser device that is easily assembled and can be manufactured at low cost and a light-source device using the same are provided. The laser device includes a base plate portion, a semiconductor laser element placed on the base plate portion, a lid portion provided on the base plate portion, on which the semiconductor laser element is placed, and including a top plate, and a side wall portion covering a part or all of lateral sides of a space between the base plate portion and the top plate. The top plate is integrally formed with a part or all of the side wall portion.

Laser device and light-source device

A laser device that is easily assembled and can be manufactured at a low cost and a light-source device using the same are provided. The laser device includes a mount member including a mount surface, and a semiconductor laser element placed on the mount surface of the mount member. An upper side and lateral sides of the semiconductor laser element on the mount surface are exposed.

Provided is a laser apparatus and a light source apparatus that can reduce the footprint and realize space-saving. The laser apparatus has a bottom plate; a semiconductor laser element mounted on the bottom plate; and a terminal unit that is provided so as to face upward with respect to the bottom plate and enables external electrical connection.

A light operation device includes: an light input and output port; an light-operating element reflecting a light input from any one of the ports of the light input and output port and outputting the reflected light to any one of the ports of the light input and output port; a condensing lens system disposed between the light input and output port and the light-operating element and optically-coupling the light input and output port with the light-operating element; an anamorphic optical system disposed between the light input and output port and the condensing lens system and expanding a beam diameter of the light input from a side of the light input and output port in a beam-diameter-expanding direction. In the condensing lens system, a first focal distance in the beam-diameter-expanding direction and a second focal distance in a direction perpendicular to the beam-diameter-expanding direction differ from each other.

Light operation device

An optical switch includes: an input-output port with three or more ports arranged along a direction; a modulator that includes an incident layer, a reflective layer, and a modulation layer disposed between these layers, spatially modulates light entering the incident layer from any port of the input-output port, and outputs the light spatially-modulated toward any of other ports of the input-output port; and a condensing lens that optically couples the input-output port and the modulator, wherein x&#x2260;2x+xholds where: a coordinate axis is along the direction of the input-output port and an optical axis of the lens is set as an origin of the coordinate axis; x, x, and xrespectively are coordinates of a first port to/from which light is input/output, and a second port and a third port from/to which light input to or output from the first port is output/input; and x,x&#x3e;0.

Optical switch

An optical control apparatus includes: an optical input/output port to which light is input from outside or from which light is output outside; a spatial optical modulator that emits light having entered from the optical input/output port towards the optical input/output port and has polarization dependence; a condensing element that is disposed between the optical input/output port and the spatial optical modulator and optically couples the optical input/output port and the spatial optical modulator; and a polarization control element that is disposed between the condensing element and the spatial optical modulator, controls a polarization state of input light to cause the input light to have only a single polarization direction, and outputs the input light controlled.

The present invention provides a pulse train generator comprising: a dual-frequency signal light source for generating a dual-frequency signal; a soliton shaper for soliton-shaping output light from the dual-frequency signal light source; and an adiabatic soliton compressor for performing adiabatic soliton compression on output light from the soliton shaper, and also provides a waveform shaper used in this pulse train generator, including a plurality of highly nonlinear optical transmission lines and a plurality of low-nonlinearity optical transmission lines which has a nonlinearity coefficient lower than that of the plurality of highly nonlinear optical transmission lines and which has a second-order dispersion value of which an absolute value is different from that of the plurality of highly nonlinear optical transmission lines. An optical fiber for Raman amplification amplifies a signal light with a pumping light. A chromatic dispersion at a wavelength of 1,550 nm is in a range between &#x2212;70 ps/nm/km and &#x2212;30 ps/nm/km. Raman gain efficiency with a pumping light of 1,450 nm is equal to or more than 5 (W&#xd7;km). Nonlinear coefficient at the wavelength of 1,550 nm is equal to or less than 5.0&#xd7;10W. Zero-dispersion wavelength is neither at a wavelength of the signal light nor at a wavelength of the pumping light. Cut-off wavelength is equal to or less than the wavelength of the pumping light.

Optical fiber for Raman amplification, optical fiber coil, Raman amplifier, and optical communication system

A pumping light source unit for Raman amplification includes at least one pumping light source that outputs a first pumping light covering a current amplification band; at least one additional pumping light source that outputs a second pumping light covering an amplification band to be extended; and a setting control unit that controls a setting for a gain of an entire amplification band by resetting outputs of the first pumping light and the second pumping light. The pumping light source unit has a function of extending the amplification band in a stepwise manner.
